Oh my gosh. what school district are you in?

> it ended in a recess when they asked me to sign a blank autism supplement

and they would " fill it in later. " I asked for a complete copy of the ARD

record including the minutes . They said they couldn't give it to me because

they had to " finish it " the next day. I signed nothing and agreed to very

little (long story)

<good for you. If you had signed it you would give them a blank check.

>The next day they sent my child home with some ARD papers At the end of

each section of the forms they checked a box stating that myself and my son

agreed with each section (7sections total). I never received an copies of

proposed IEP's.

<I would suggest that you send a letter to the head of the ARD committee and

CC the special ed director, the principal, etc. and say the equivalent of " I

received the ARD papers for me to sign in my child's school bag today. I am

a little confused because the ARD papers did not have the copies of the IEPs

listed that I was promised. I am also confused as to why the papers were

sent when we have another ARD meeting scheduled on XXXXXXXX. Could you

please tell me why you sent his ARD paperwork home for me to sign in his

school bag rather than give me the paperwork at the next meeting? "

In other words, DOCUMENT DOCUMENT DOCUMENT.

>THE QUESTION IS SINCE THE ISSUES HAVE TO BE RESOLVED IN 10 DAYS, WHAT DO I

DO?

<Give NO response other than a polite written response expressing confusion.

Show up at the meeting. This is not legal advice. You clearly need legal

advice here because you are going to have to go to due process to get this

school to work with you. I would also call Advocacy Inc. because the school

has made a pretty basic procedural violation that they might take. I would

also suggest you start looking for advocates and take a neighbor or someone

with you to the meeting. TAPE THE MEETING AND MAKE SURE YOU BRING ENOUGH

TAPES WITH YOU.

Will I be violation if I ask for the ARD to be rescheduled?

Yes I think. It's better if you gather your resources and bring it to the

next scheduled meeting. Order a copy of " How to Compromise with you school

without compromising your child by Mayerson, www.mayerslaw.com

>Or, should I show-up and disagree again?

<If you are willing to fight a due process hearing, then yes.

>The issues will not get resolved as they ignore anything I say and proceed

as if I agree. (ie. " no job coaching " because we don't do that, "

<The law precludes that the education be tailored to the child, not the

child be pigeon-holed into whatever programming the school offers.

>if you don't like the 1 1/2 hr unsupervised lunch (free to leave campus)

you can come pick him up at lunch, etc.

<that sounds like a violation of the autism supplement of minimum of

unstructured free time.

I'm in Lubbock...Lubbock is the reason that my son was home-schooled from grades

2-8. When I had to move to Houston to get medical tx. for my son I enrolled him

in Spring (Westfield HS). They didn't do much for him voluntarily, however I

attended all ARD's with a representive from the ARC Ruth Ellen Parks, great

lady!) ora gentleman from Advocacy Inc. (who volunteered to come on his own,

since he was helping us on another issue, going to ARD's is not an agency

priority, bless him too!). Shame on me for thinking that during this 8 yr. time

span the disrict has changed. Unforfunately, I'm stuck here until I finish my

degree at Texas Tech. Great university, but, West Texas public schools are

beyond a parent's worst nightmare. They make Houston schools look very good. I

hope the people who are considering moving to Texas " their top 3 " read this.

Thanks for the advice.
