Guest guest
Aliza - Here is the link to the story in the Houston Chronicle. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/2677202 Amy, " I don't suffer from stress.....I'm a carrier! Every day that I send my 6 year old daughter to school I fear the worst. I hope these parents sue the living @#$%! out of HISD and win big time. The entire district should be shut down. Could you please post the link to this article so that we can forward it? Thanks, Aliza
Guest guest
The story " Parents claim HISD cover-up in son's alleged rape " of an autistic boy, 13, attacked at summer school at Camp We All in HISD was published in the Houston Chronicle today so you can go to their website today to read it, after today it will be considered an archived file and you would probably be charged for viewing it. However, the writer's e-mail address was supplied at the bottom of the article-- _harvey.rice@..._ (mailto:harvey.rice@...)
Guest guest
Not to scare everyone silly, but this is NOT as isolated an event as we would all like to believe. The Autism Society of Greater Tarrant County somewhat regularly handles calls of this nature....from all over the state. Kids with autism, both male and female, are regularly victimized (raped, beaten, robbed, etc.) by victimizers including other special needs kids on a far too frequent basis. One instance from another part of the state that particularly sticks in my mind was of an older boy with autism who was repeatedly raped at Special Olympics events by another special Olympian. Talk about sick.... This is just one of many reasons why ASGTC brought in Dennis Debbaudt last summer to train area police officers...not because we thought people with autism were going to COMMIT crimes, but because they have a much, much higher than average chance of being the VICTIMS of crimes of all kinds. If you ever have a chance to become familiar with any of Dennis' work or attend one of his trainings, I would highly advise it. He has special trainings for parents on how to keep your children safe. Dennis is also a parent of a young adult male with autism. nna P.S. One of many reasons why I could no longer handle being ASGTC president...too much really hard stuff to deal with on a continual basis!!!
