Does anyone here have direct experience with a MEG or magnetoencephalogram?

Thanks.

Cornelia-

We just moved to the Dallas area - actually, we are in Frisco but my husband

works in . We have a 21 month old who was just diagnosed as being " on

the spectrum. " He also had a seizure in November, so we had an MRI done which

indicated that he also had a stroke. The stroke affected his right temporal

lobe so now the neurologist is saying that he can be quite susceptible to

seizures as a result of the stroke. In any event, I am just wondering what

doctor you are using for your child's seizures and if you are happy. We are

using a neurologist in Plano and I am not so thrilled. We had an EEG done - it

showed nothing, but our son seems to " zone out " alot and when he does his eyes

will flutter. He also twitches all the time - so I want to follow this up more

thoroughly. I never heard of an MEG, but I will do some research - but I would

love to know if you found a neurologist or an epilepsy specialist that you are

happy with.

Thanks-

Mara

Amy- How did you guess from my vague description???? He is a very sweet man, I

just have not gotten answers to some of my questions, I find his office

unresponsive, and after he diagnosed Zach with being " on the spectrum, " sent me

home with some very pessimistic literature. In any event, yes - that is who I

am seeing and I just think I need to find someone else who has some more

experience with seizures. I definately think that Zach is having seizures, as

do his therapists, and nothing is showing up on the EEG. But he seems to twitch

all the time, particularly in his sleep. I just want to find out more about the

stroke, seizure connection and whether he truly has autism or is he a kiddo that

had a stroke presenting like a kid with autism.

As for Dr. Sperry, I have not heard of him. Zach did have his 24 hour EEG at

Medical City and the nursing staff was wonderful. I am going to take him to

Childrens at the end of July.

Take care,

Mara

Mara, unfortunately, I don't know how the teacher's daughter was finally and

correctly diagnosed. Since school is out I haven't seen Ms. Reen. My son is

starting summer camp at school July 6 and I might be running into some of

her colleagues who might know how to reach her (she doesn't teach summer

school) otherwise I might not be able to ask her until mid August when school

is

back in session.

Perhaps you and your family might pursue a second opinion. I believe there

are several neurologists on staff at the Meyer Center inside Texas Children's

Hospital. Oh, and my name is Reece and I have a 5 year son who is ASD

without seizures.
