I worked as a nurse since 1985. I can tell you that It isn't always known. I have seen many times when we have cared for pts for 2-3 weeks and then one day come into work and find the pt on isolation....LOL. It is not " chemo " , but an antibiotic pill. Today it most likely will be given for nine months. That is the risk we take when we work in corrections and in medicine, vicki, and it doesn't do any good to be angry except waste your energy. He has converted or else he is allergic to the test. Either way, a simple chest exray, or really, just a history and exam with a physician, will show he is not having active TB in the future.
