Guest guest
Hi everyone, Well I have managed to get sick. This time it is an URI with a flair up of my asthma. To top that off I have absolutely no voice and was up with fever and chills during the night using the inhaler to be able to breath. First time I have used that inhaler since the DS. I am sure our up and down weather has not helped much either here in MS. We are in the 50's daytime and into the 30's at night this time of year. So here is my BIG question.....When you have been sick what type of antibiotics have you taken successfully ? My PCP prescribed liquid Cipro as he wants to make sure it will absorb. I am limited in what antibiotics I can take as I am allergic to Sulfa and Penicillin. Boy does the liquid Cipro taste BAD ! I had to drive a good half hour away to a drug store that had it in stock. I know I need to get well, but PCP keeps wanting to always give me liquids since surgery, and yes I hesitantly take them as I need to get well, BUT yucky in the taste department. So any input as to what has absorbed well for any of you when ill would be much appreciated. I will take notes and talk to him next time when I do have a voice to ask for pills, instead of liquids. I was very blessed by my dear neighbor who came over to call the docs office this a.m. for me, since I have no voice and DH was gone for work by the time they opened she really helped me out. I was glad PCP did not want to see me and just called in the prescription also, but if it would not of been for my wonderful neighbor I would of had to of driven to the doc office to write notes to them about what was wrong. This dear neighbor had so much patience ! She was on hold for almost a half hour before she could leave a message with the secretary for the doc. Today I have been blessed PW lap ds 7-15-03 down 106 pounds and counting sw/cw/goal 320/214/???
Guest guest
The liquid cipro isn't horrible tasting but not yummy either...grainy if I remember correctly. However Liquid is not necessary you'll do fine with most pills...just want to avoid the Extended release versions. The reason I was put on the liquid cipro was...I had a bad continueing sinus infection...antibiotics would help but wouldn't " knock it " ...so just as a possibility that I wasn't absorbing the antibiotics we tried liquid cipro...it worked exactly the same as the pill had. The Doctor did say that his RNY patients do better on the liquid so we were giving it a try. The only thing that took care of the infection was surgery since one of my sinus ducts were completely blocked. Only my experience. Guest guest
PW, I have taken Avelox and Zithromax as well as Cipro in pill form since my surgery, without problems. I am allergic to PCN and cephalosporins (like Keflex). Maybe this will help your PCP. Remember I am an internist, so I wouldn't give you inaccurate information. You might avoid certain timed release drugs, or all of them, just to be safe. ie Wellbutrin XR. Marta
