Hi Heidi,

way to go on your online college courses....hope they go well! I think you might have over done it with the baby finger with all the typing and writing. Might be best if you could rest it as much as possible so the inflammation isn't irritated more. Might want to ice the finger to hopefully reduce the swelling and if that doesn't work maybe trying some tiger balm ... a little goes a very long way and should bring a bit of relief.

I too am a leftie !!

Take care,

marilyn

Hi folks

My hands are flaring again, esp. my baby finger. It is so taut and swollen, larger than my middle finger, which right now is ok. I took the Celebrex and am hoping it will calm by morning. Overuse does me in. I am taking an on-line college course, and I did a fair bit of typing yesterday, and some writing on paper tonight, dragging that finger (I am a leftie).

Anyway, any suggestions of topical lotions or hot/cold that helps relieve the feeling that your fingers are so swollen they surely will burst.

Thanks

Heidi

Boy, Heidi........when I was in the midst of my last flare, my feet were sooooooo swollen that I could hardly walk on them. I thought, for sure, that they would pop if I did. They looked like two loaves of bread. All my fingers were the same way. The only thing that kind of helped was a high increase of the Prednisone. I didn't want to increase the dosage I was on but sometimes a gal has to do what a gal has to do.......??? :o) I remember taking 60 mgs. of the dreaded stuff for about four days and then lowering it slowly. It didn't bring my feet down to normal but it helped a lot. Then we went home to Michigan, that's when my Rheumatologist and I decided to start the Enbrel. Didn't work until I added MTX. So far, knock on wood, I haven't had another flare.

I do remember that when I would over use my hands or walk a lot, they would immediately start swelling. This is a nasty disease and it does what it wants !! :o( I hope someone else can help you with some ideas to lessen your swelling. I still don't wear any rings....
