Trish -- I have the same problem with my face, which turns red once or twice a day. I'm on pred, and I suspect the problem might be related to medication, but I'm not sure, and I'll ask about that when I meet my doctor. All the best,

Sungjin in Seoul, South Korea

P.S. I just joined the mailing list, and I think I have to introduce myself briefly. I was diagnosed as AOSD in Dec. 2003, though my symptoms began in September, but there's not much information about ASOD or any support group in South Korea. Hope everyone feel good and happy!

Hi C 2

Thank you for your kind reply!

Well, my case was a quick diagnosis indeed.

In September last year, I got a sore throat and extreme fever for over a week,

and a doc nearby my house said it's just a bad cold.

But my body was all in pain when I woke up in the morning even after he prescribed flu medication, and I had a vicious cycle of fever, chills and pains in my muscles.

In October and November, I got some treatment at a local oriental clinic, a traditional medical science in Korea and Asia, using acupucture and other methods.

After taking some medication there, I got a blood test, but data puzzled the doc., who asked me to seek help at a Western-style general hospital -- Asan Hospital, one of the biggest in Seoul. But I had to wait until Dec. 5 due to the long waiting list to see a doc at the rheumatology department.

The new doc said I had to take a comprehensive test, which I did for three days after checking in the hospital -- and it's somewhat painful (bone marrow test, CT scan, etc.). He initially gave me Mobic since I had some artrithic pain in my fingers and evanescent rash on my arms. Two weeks later, I saw my doc again, but my symptoms -- fever, rash and pain -- did not go away visibly, and he decided to prescribe pred. (40mg), Celebrex, Oscal (vitamin D + calcium).

And then things got really nasty. Initially it's great. Fever was under control, and my conditions improved, though I couldn't sleep well due to pred. Soon, drug eruption (doc said it's because of my allergy against Celebrex) hit me really hard.

So, Celebrex was removed, and I took strong anti-allergy medication. The drug eruption, unfortunately, worsened my conditions, touching off a severe flare (Up until then, I didn't have such flare -- all the muscles, shoulders, ankles, arms were in great pain, and I couldn't move at all for more than three days).

My doc doulbed the dosage of pred. to 80mg a day on Jan. 12, but I have some pain in my shoulders and hip. I'm not sure how my doc will control the dosage of pred. in coming weeks, but I hope he'll decrease it pretty soon, since I heard pred. has many dangerous side effects.

One good thing, though, is that my home is just 15 minutes away from Asan Hospital by car, so I can see my doc if my conditions turn bad suddenly (Seoul is very crowded and key facilities are packed along with apartment complexes).

I hope you're well and happy today, too.

All the best

Sungjin, Seoul, South Korea

PS Korea, China and other Asian countries are now observing the Lunar New Year Holiday this week. So, I'm at home with my wife, just relaxing..... (^^)

Yeah sungjin 80mgs is a hefty dose of pred most likely your doctor will reduce the dose, hopefully in the meantime it does the trick and gets you outta the flare. Also about the red face I too get it now and then unlike my Stills rash witch never bothered me but it was very ugly lol.The rash that I tend to get on my face now and then actually stings a little kinda weird but disappears fast.Heh what's the weather like in Korea kinda cold here in Alberta,Canada had little freezing rain again today very slippery roads.Take care. d.Canada

Sungjin,

Have a very Happy New Year!!

Are you still taking 80mg pred? That's a lot. I hope they are also prescribing

meds to keep your bones intact.

Take care
