Guest guest
I've been tv free perhaps half of my life. And yes, the absense of tv definitely in my case has a calming effect. Going without is difficult for the first few weeks to a month- it's definitely an addiction! But after you find things to fill in that time and enough weeks pass I start to feel normal, and then relaxed. I think I'm generally pretty distractable in any case, but when I've been tv-free for awhile and I go into a room with one on- it's almost impossible not to be drawn in by it. I try then to go out of my way to avoid being around one even briefly, other than just passing through the room. That's very interesting what said about whistling at sports events and Japan. It's a long story but ever since I was small I wanted to travel there. Lately I've been wondering if it might be more of a AS-friendly place then most other countries. According to one or two cross-cultural studies of ASDs Japan is supposed to have roughly the same rates as the US, but those are very recent and tentative. Once I had a tv and vhs. I played some movies over and over again. I'm a little curious as to what other people on this list have watched more than three times or so. For me- both the Lynch version of Dune and the science fiction channel 7 hour version I've watched over and over. Also, Bladerunner... Pi... the Oliver Stone movies about Nixon and about JFK... Thirteen Days (about the Cuban missile crisis)... I'm sure there are others but I can't think of them just now. I've probably had on the 7 hour Dune version a total of over 100 hours, but a lot of that has been while making dinners and so on. We only tape shows and edit out the commericals. Yes regular TV hurts my brain. There is an immeadiate calming effect, and the result is that you live a life. Guest guest
" I played some movies over and over again. I'm a little curious as to what other people on this list have watched more than three times or so. " I do tend to watch the same movies over and over again because very few new movies are ones that interest me and provide me with the satisfaction that older movies do. I have levels of entertainment. Light: A Christmas Story Alien Alien II Alien III Alien IV Bram Stokers Dracula (directed by Francis Ford Copula) Certain nature documentaries. Dr. Who Episodes from the original series. Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters II. Indiana and the Last Crusade Indiana and the Temple of Doom Land of the Lost episodes from the original series. Saving Private Star Trek IV Star Wars Star Wars, Return of the Jedi The Mummy. The Mummy Returns. The Waltons Episodes from the original series. War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise version) Medium: Clear and Present Danger Continental Divide Dances with Wolves Full Metal Jacket Gorillas in the Mist Jaws Labyrinth Last of the Mohicans Other nature documentaries. Rear Window The Pelican Brief Titanic The Crown Affair (New version) Witness Heavy: Gatica Hotel Rawanda I Dream of Africa

This has been the case for me as well TV was an addiction, Like you have said I got sucked in/tunnel vision can't leave even if the show was stupid as a child. Tv can also make me sad or frighten me. Effect my emotional mood. So like you it is as if I hide from the TV. Like an alcoholic removing alcohol from their environment. thanks Heph Oh and I am VERY distractable.
