Guest guest
Connie, how old is he? Brain Spect Scans Dr. Goldberg has just suggested that we come out for a Brain Spect scan on my son. As we have not progressed well after 18 months on the protocol, I am anxious to do anything that might shed some light on my son's illness so that it can be treated effectively. I would love to hear other's experience with the Spect scan to understand how the information gained helped in knowing the best treatment. Also, did you have problems getting your child to hold still for so long, or was your child sedated? I am not sure how the " Brain Spect " differs from a Neuro Spect scan. Thanks so much! Guest guest
Connie, I have recently had both my daughters to LA for scans. The first part is unsedated. Depending on how cooperative, the child must breathe in Xenon over a seven to eight minute period, either through a mask or a tube held in the mouth. My youngest daughter would not cooperate despite two tries two months apart. My older daughter was a champ. The second part last 15-20 minutes. A dye is injected and after 50 -60 minutes you go back for the second part. This part the child can be sedated for. My first daughter was so exhausted from screaming about the first part that she actually fell asleep while I was holding her head still and singing the same song for twenty minutes! But it was worth it. The brain scan and spect scan are the same thing. It is a working picture of the brain at that point in time. A good website to help you understand and gather info about scans is www.brainplace.com. I wish I had done a scan sooner. The technician, Carmen is wonderful. Both of my daughters fit the picture but their scans were exactly opposite. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me ajmarron@....
