Vicki,

was a DS brother who died a few weeks after his surgery. He died of a

pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs). It was not a complication of

or directly related to the DS surgery.

Vicki, a follow up . . .

The number one cause of unexplained / unexpected deaths in the western world

is the pulmonary embolism. It is a concern after any surgery, but it's just

as much a concern for a non-surgery person who is walking down the street.

Jim,

I disagree. A clot is a potential complication of any surgery. To say

it was unrelated is probabally incorrect. That is why we get bloodthinners and

they preach mobilization! It wasn't a direct result of the surgery but was

likely a complication. I worked too many year med surg to let this slip.

BTW have you noticed how many commercials they have had lately about

the risks of people having clots?

Mel- Who has given

more than her fair share of lovenox and heparin over the years!!!!!!!
