Dear Jim,

>From Medline:

" Epididymitis is an inflammation of the epididymis, the tubular structure

that connects the testicle with the vas deferens.

" Acute epididymitis causes swelling of the scrotum, pain in the testicles,

and sometimes a fever.

" Epididymitis is caused by spread of infection from the urethra or the

bladder. The most common organisms involved in the condition are gonorrhea,

chlamydia and E.coli.

" Tuberculosis can also manifest as epididymitis. Other bacteria (such as

Ureaplasma) may also cause epididymitis.

" A non-infectious cause of epididymitis is the use of anti-arrhythmic

medication, amiodarone.

" Men who have recently had surgery are at greater risk.

" Other risk factors include chronic indwelling urethral catheter use and

being uncircumcised.

" It is important that this condition be distinguished from testicular

torsion (a reduction or stoppage of the blood flow to the testicle) which

requires emergency care. Testicular torsion is a surgical emergency and

should be treated as soon as possible. "

So treatment would depend somewhat on the cause of the problem.

Bacterial problems can be addressed with penile insufflation, plus scrotal

bagging, and drinking ozonated water.

Best of Health!
