Center for Autism and Related Disorders Contributes Nearly $1 Million to Autism Research

The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) announces it has contributed nearly $1 Million to autism research. CARD is the only private, for-profit corporation contributing significantly to autism research in the United States, ranking third among non-governmental organizations contributing to autism research in the United States, according to the 2010 IACC Autism Spectrum Disorder Research Portfolio Analysis Report.

The Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, a federal advisory committee that coordinates all efforts within the Department of Health and Human Services concerning autism spectrum disorder (ASD), released its annual IACC Autism Spectrum Disorder Research Portfolio Analysis Report, which “tracks US inputs or investments into autism research.†CARD’s investment in autism research has increased every year since IACC began tracking autism research funding.About the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC):The Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee was established in 2006 in accordance with the Combating Autism Act of 2006 and reauthorized in 2011. IACC coordinates all efforts within the Department of Health and Human Services concerning autism spectrum disorder to combat autism through research, screening, intervention and education. The Committee's primary mission is to facilitate the efficient and effective exchange of information on autism activities among the member agencies and to coordinate autism-related programs and initiatives. The Committee serves as a forum and assists in increasing public understanding of the member agencies' activities, programs, policies, and research, and in bringing important matters of interest forward for discussion.About the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD):With 23 treatment centers located around the globe and a staff of nearly 1,000, CARD treats individuals of all ages who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). CARD researchers strive to produce research that is not only of academic interest but, also, of practical value to individuals with ASD and their families. CARD treats autism using the principles and procedures of applied behavior analysis (ABA), which has which has been empirically proven to be the most effective method for treating individuals with autism and is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the US Surgeon General.
