This this fabulous news! This is what we are hoping for with our son too. Thanks for sharing.ErynMom to Brayden, 21 months, 3rd cast From: Randi Nagel <mommyloveshertwins24@...> infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Saturday, July 7, 2012 7:46 PM Subject: Great news for

Avery, thanks to EDF casting

Hi everyone,

I haven't been on in a long time. There has been so much going on and just haven't had the time.

I wanted to share that Avery just started wearing her first brace after 5 casts. She has been holding at 10 degrees for the last 3 casts, down from 39 degrees in Janurary 2011. Her rotation is down to 0 and holding, from 20 degrees in January 2011.

She is now 2 years and 9 months old. We started casting when she was 16 months old.

The Dr thinks that she is good to go and won't need any further intervention after she gets her brace of in 12 months. We will go back to see him every 3 months while she is in her brace. Then we will continue to see him annually until she stops grwoing for check ups. She looks so straight!

Her brace was fitted to be exactly the same shape as her cast, even had the same cut outs. So, she doesn't mind it.

She was able to swim for the first time 3 weeks ago and it was a beautiful sight. A very wonderful payoff for 17 months of casting.

I know that this process would have been so much more stressful without the help of everyone on here. I am so very thankful and blessed that the Dr gave me this website information when I first saw him.

God definitely had His hand on Avery during this time. If we had gotten into see the Dr even 3 months earlier, we would have seen a specialist that didn't do EDF casts. Our Dr came on 2-3 months before we got in to see him.

Thank you all again and I hope that my next update is just as good of news.

Thank you so much for sharing! Our 16 month old is about to be put into her

first cast in two weeks so it's great to get perspective on what's to come. Did

Avery get an X-ray every time? Is she still being x-rayed every three months at

these check ups? Just curious. Thank you again for sharing this!

She was x-rayed everytime but one. Her cast in March, we didn't xray beforehand. We had decided that it was probably her last cast at least for the summer, so we just casted right after removal of her 4th one. He did xray her while in cast and sedated though. I believe that we will get an xray at each check up. I know that we are definitely getting one at her first follow up, because he told me. He wants to make sure that her brace is holding her. All together she has had 9 x-rays for her casting and 1 MRI. (1 of the x-rays was after she had her brace on) For her 2nd and 5th casts they just removed the cast and reapplied the second at the same time, under

sedation. For her 1st, 3rd and 4th cast, she had an xray before and after. We were hoping with cast 3 and 4 that she would be doing better. We go to Riley's in Indianapolis and couldn't be happier with her care and we LOVE her specialist. Im glad the post helped out. Avery did really well in her cast. The first 7-14 days were tough with her getting used to it, but after that it didn't hold her back at all :) She re-learned how to do everything. When she got her first cast, she had just learned how to walk and had to re-learn. It was tough for her to walk without her cast, since she was crooked and she aslo had torticollis, so she had major balance issues. The cast helped stabilize her. Thanks . I don't have any digital copies of her x-rays, but we go in September for her first brace check up.I know that the Dr had her first and last x-ray side by side, so I will ask for a copy. I will also work on a good after picture, if she'll hold still long enough... :) I know that the stories on the website were a big help to me when we first started. They give tangible hope. While the words of encouragement are priceless as well, it was in moments of big doubt that the stories on the site helped the most. I just want to do what I can. Our journey has been much smoother, thanks to this site.4 Ill be in
