Guest guest
 HI HOLLY in MICHIGAN  I grew up in MICHIGAN. My mother still lives there near the DETROIT area. She taught in DEARBORN when I was growing up, and was a special ed teacher, retired in 1992. My son , who has ASPERGERS, was born when my husband and ( by way of living in Chicago, then South Carolina) moved to Niles area in Western Michigan over by K-Zoo, not far from the border of IND. We moved there in 1988 and was born in 1989, in Niles, just ten miles north of Notre Dame Univ in South BEND IND.  Well, anyway, I always thought Michigan had excellent schools.  My state here is ok, but they all need some work, everywhere. I think IL is actually one of the worst in the USA for some things, and our funding here, the way the schools get money and are funded, is POOR. There is much that makes this state one of the lowest ones in terms of EDUCATION. However, just like Michigan, it depends on where you live in each state. I went to school in Dearborn, near Detroit, and then moved in Junior high and high school to a VERY nice suburb north of Detroit area, and a district that has a lot of money and was tops. I graduated high school there in 1978.  My son graduated from high school here one week ago on Thurs May 17. He had a nice high school, but we have a small area, only our school has the area career center, voc tech school and also some spec ed students come and get bussed from other districts from all over our area and counties next to us. Something that you might wish to do, is check up in the areas you wish to move, and check online for the school report card, talk to people who live in the town, and listen to them, when you hear some things repeated over and over. I have learned that when I have moved all over many times in my life. I would also think you could check with the schools, tour, talk to them, see what they know, and where their experience and information lies. Now, things are easier than when my son was younger. He is now 18, but when he was in preschool and K, nothing was known about ASPERGERS then, hardly, here in the USA, anyway. So, he was only known to be only ADHD then. However, we ALL knew it was more than just that, but did not have a name. However, I live in a small town, we had one ELE school with 600 kids, that is it. We are almost two hours from Chicago, and we just had been backwards really. I can see that they have progressed and I have been one to insist that they learn all that they can about AS. I have never heard anyone complain about schools in AZ. I see you mentioned AZ. My dad lives there, since 1989, he is a retired college professor, and does not know about the schools there as he has no children in schools, we are all grown. I could bet someone online might be able to help you with more. Good luck. in IL   AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.
