Guest guest
My kids do not go thru our local school district. But, our local district will provide a tutor at no cost thru the athletic leadership or national honor society program---these kids need community service hours, and tutoring counts as that. Most of them are high school juniors or seniors. We have had a great experience with this, as both the ones being tutored feel like someone " special " is coming to see just them!! what I do is have their teachers send home things they need extra help on or have missed due to illness, along with a breif summary of how to go about it, and it has worked great. Our tutor comes once a week for an hour. Since this is not affiliated with the school home bound study program in which a child has to miss " x " amount of days before it kicks in, it doesnt matter at all if they miss 1 day or 20. My kids enjoy it b/c its not MOM hammering more homework down them--and with their tutor being a teen, she is more fun and playful than I would think to be. Also, if your child is in the hospital often, most states have hospital tutoring programs, and the school can just fax them assignments. hope this helps. valarie
