Guest guest
Hello everyone, I was just wondering how some of you got your child diagnose at such a young age. We went to one Psychologist and she gave Zachary the GARS test( i think thats it) the testing for aspergers, anyway, he scored a 92, anything over a 85 is thought to be high to probability. She is about a 2 hr drive from here so we can go see her all the time so tried to find someone closer. The new Psychologist is nice and seems to know what she is doing but she will not diagnose a child at this young of an age. I am wondering if I should find a different Psy. in this area or just work with her. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. God Bless You All, , Oklahoma City,Ok. I had two pediatricians who told me no when I said something about my concerns and then finally got the one to give me a referal to a pediatric neurologist at our Children's Hospital here in Akron, Ohio. I would try to find out who the main clinicians/experts are in your area...I hope that helps and best of luck. Terri, 's mom
Guest guest
Josh was diagnosed at 4years by the head of Developmental Pediatricians at Loyola University Hospital here in the Chicago area. She had no qualms about diagnosing him at that age and we go back every 6mo and the dx is pretty much confirmed all the time. Zach (classic autism) was diagnosed by the same doctor at age 3. We did have our 5yo evaluated by a team of therapists when he was almost 3 but they didn't catch it then. When we explained to the doctor what he was presenting at age three she seemed to think that Josh would have been diagnosable at that age. Not sure if that helps you. Christy -- How? Guest guest
My son was 5 when diag. with Asp. If you know in your heart that something isn't right I would call the Oklahoma Child Study Center (at OU Medical Center downtown) in OKC and get an appt. It may take a little while to get the appt. but it was well worth the wait for my son, we got all the answers we had been asking ourselves and then some. I personally don't believe in getting an eval. till around 4 and the reason is that ppl started suspecting things when he was 3 and we have had 3 different diag. from 3 different ppl. and after each diag. we would change gears on how to help him. So if your child is younger then that have then diag. then repeat it a year or so later just as a check up. But again remember this is my opinion and you must do what is in your heart. Hope this helps.
