Guest guest Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 Just wondering why the doc is focusing on food? Is the doc suspecting an allergy or gut problem or throwing you a bone? How is her pooping? Days per week? Texture? Smell? Many PID pumpkins have gut issues, that when not addressed, can cause havoc all over the body. I think he was thinking her body is lacking something sodium, potassium etc. I have a question for you. My diabetic grandson poops about 4 times a day. Texture is well, maybe like lumpy mashed potatoes, and smells awful. What do you think? He is two, between that and peeing all the time, I don't know how he will ever get potty trained! Guest guest Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 " I think he was thinking her body is lacking something sodium, potassium etc. " Thanks, Grandma! = ) Perhaps the doc is monitoring serum electrolytes? Hmmm. " I have a question for you. My diabetic grandson poops about 4 times a day...smells awful...peeing all the time " . I am not sure why this is happening but, as you know, peeing all of the time is a sign that BG is not well controlled. I wonder how uncontrolled glucose might affect the gut? Other things that come to mind are: - Some of the medications can cause diarrhea (e.g., glucophage and some of the anti-hyperglycemic drugs) as a side effect. - Sometimes, the pancreas enzymes end up involved (I don't know if it is a chicken or the egg thing) and certain nutrients get malabsorbed such as proteins, fats, and vitamins A, D, E, and K (usually greasy and stinky). --- Neuropathies can also contribute to GI function irregularities I hope your grandson has a good GI doc to help solve this mystery. I really don't know what is happening. Sorry he is going through this. (mom to CVIDer) Quote
