Pronouns/ Gender Confusion

We have been working on pronouns and gender for many, many months.

I have been told that we need to give our verbal praise from my sons'

perspective. Ex

Are you a boy or a girl?

Answer: I am a boy

Our Praise: That's right I am a boy.

Ok all our therapists are women. So, I believe he thinks we are saying

" I " (the female therapist) am a boy.

If we use his name and say " Is G. a boy or a girl? " He usually gets this

right and will answer " G. is a boy "

I believe his main confusion is about the pronoun not the gender. We have

also been prompting him to point to himself when he is saying " I " or

pointing to the therapist when he is saying " you " .

He is very confused and I believe we have added to this. I am not buying the

answer of " most kids with autism have problems with pronouns " . I still think

we don't know how to teach it.

Would love to hear about great ideas on how to teach pronouns.
