Guest guest
Shoulder straps are super effective in maintaining the integrity of the cast/correction in children with curves above T-8/9. The pioneer of ET and ISOP's core group of physicians are all in agreement that littles with high curves (over t-8/9) must have over the shoulder casts. Shoulder straps should be low and not touching the childs ears. If they are, Ide try and get them properly trimmed, before I get them trimmed off. Just an fyi... HRH a great example of properly applied shoulder straps are the jackets coming out of slc...The straps help hold the shoulders in an even position also which can only be of benefit to the scoli. > Yes I have had both straps taken off Olivia's cast due to rubbing issues > without any problem. I know the Dr arn't fond of it but I have found the > straps have no real benifit unless the cast is loos and couls slip down, > but if that is the case it is not doing it's job at all. > > > From: " kfaul@... Guest guest
When got her second cast 3 months ago, they tried the shoulder straps. Not sure what went wrong, but they didn't do what they were intended to do. They definitely were too " high " on her. They didn't touch her ears, but you could tell they didn't serve a purpose - I could get my entire hand between the strap and her shoulder. I pushed to have them removed, and 's doctor agreed that they weren't doing what they were supposed to. But, they did say that it was designed to provide some stabilization to the cast. 's curve is pretty low, so it doesn't surprise me that this is another reason why it was okay to cut off the straps.Father to , San Diego, finished with cast #2 On Fri, Aug 19, 2011 at 7:55 AM, <heather@...> wrote: Shoulder straps are super effective in maintaining the integrity of the cast/correction in children with curves above T-8/9. Guest guest
I don’t blame you for having them removed. Especially if they weren’t serving their purpose….HRH From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of ToneySent: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 5:28 PMinfantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: shoulder straps When got her second cast 3 months ago, they tried the shoulder straps.
