Guest guest Posted November 27, 2004 Report Share Posted November 27, 2004 You have the option of changing products but nothing guarantees an infusion free of side effects. I would suggest before switching that you might try IV premedications. They work at 100% where the oral meds are absorbed by the gut and generally only 40-50% are left after metabolism for the body. Plus it can take almost an hour for Motrin to get to the system, by then there is IVIG already in the system wrecking havoc. Which is basically what a side effect is. The havoc. Atarax tends to work fairly quick. Depending on how much atarax they are giving him be sure to watch his breathing when you get home. Atarax around here is used as a sedating drug for procedures. It does it's job very well of calming the body down. It's a great antihistamine but unfortunately since it calms the body down that also includes the lungs and muscles (kindof get a floppy kid now and then). Macey lived off and on the stuff when she was younger because of ezcema (sp) and sinus problems. We are very conservative with the dosing. But anyway. Remember also he's in the beginning stages of getting the med and you're finally putting an immune system in a body that hasn't had one so far and the bacteria already on board do not like that at all. They're going to fight back. You may get some type of " retaliation " or strong effect after dosing for several months while the body stores this stuff up and pushes out (or tries) the bacteria. We had prescriptions at home for lasting effects (meds for headaches and stomach problems). It just kindof became a trade off for us. We worked for years with rates of infusing, premeds, brands, pumps. It's very well choreographed dance it seems to get an infusion that's reaction free.
