Guest guest
Hi actually I am a returner from a few months ago....I checked this site out because we had long history of problems with our son since he was 5 months old. They were trying to rule immune deficiency out (12 months old), well back then when they drew the blood work I was still nursing. They did not realize that my breastmilk may have skewed the test. Now that he is twenty-seven months, an IBD specialist (they suspected Crohn's out of lack of unknown diagnosis and positive IBD blood test Prometheus) decided to rerun the immune labs again and they just found yesterday that he has low IGG and IGA levels. Long History: chronic fevers, enlarged spleen and liver, anemia, sinus issues(suspected allergies but all came back normal, not that is factual either) frequent conjuctivitis (6 episodes since birth) excessive diarrhea, a few ear infections but not too bad and failure to grow, or actually very slow growth, eye problems possible glasses soon... I am interested in hearing from you all, what does low IGG and IGA mean? They ar enot excessively low base don the scale used at this lab his IGA was 61 (66-436 is normal) and his IGG was 501 (791-1643) I tried reading up some documents and as I already know the immune system is pretty complicated. I gather he is more likely to get more infections and possibly things that my husband, myself, or son would not be infected with. In laymans terms, what have you all dealt with in terms of low IGG and IGA? Is it possible that IGM and other forms of immunity can be normal now, and later become high or low? How do they treat your children now? I read mostly by anitbiotics, and later as it progresses other options. Are there immune booster shots? Thanks sooo much, I am just glad our battle of figur8ing out if we belong to GI, Immunology, or Endocrine is over (doesn't mean we won't see them again) I will post our family shortly if there is a place to do so at the site, I am anxious to learn more so we can help our son.
