Guest guest
I doubt this was his motivation for doing it. Aspies like to express their individuality, but they also like bucking the system. The older these boys get, the more they will find needless injustices and constraints " imposed " upon them by society. It IS important that boys conform if they are going to be successful, but at the same time, they ought to be allowed a little leeway here and there as kids, if for no other reason then to alleviate any stress that might be accumulating in their lives. Tom Administrator He said his friends liked it... I think they admire him for having the guts to look 'different than the other 'paperdoll' kids. I agree with you that they need to learn to conform to be successful, but if all the kids followed the dress code it would be understandable. But several kids dye their hair and hiphuggers are not allowed but 9 out of 10 girls wears hiphuggers.I'm just glad he has feelings about anything other than computer games and is in a fighting mode instead of the depressed don't give a d*mn about anything attitude he has had this winter. Guest guest
Hi and welcome to this list. Thanks for sharing this story about your boys. I too was rather shy in high school but still wore my own style. Looking at a class photo from the time, I was the only one who deviated from what was the 'mandatory' look at that time, both in hair and dress. I also have a clip from a local paper of our class trip to Berlin. Besides covering the trip in general, the journalist selected a few of us that she thought stuck out enough to write something extra about. The caption under my picture says " Inger is the only one who dares to be different. She only eats spaghetti and candy. We went to the art museum together and her idol is DalĂ. " Though my taste has changed a bit since then, I still have my own dress style (since I don't like the contemporary fashion now either) and still eat only a few things. I'm very glad my (half-Aspie) mom supported me being an original (although she did sigh a bit when I had Vulcan eyebrows in my 20's) and didn't try to make me into a clone just to fit in. I still grew into a responsible adult. I'm sure your boys appreciate having such an open-minded and supportive mom as much as I did. Inger another day in our lives... I have twin 17 yo boys. They decided months ago to dye their hair. Their hair is naturally brown. I figured they could want worse things(drugs, alcohol etc) so I dyed Noahs black and ns blonde so people could tell them apart. They were sick of being called 'the twins'.I don't blame them there. They go to a private school where there are about 30 kids in their grade and alot of them couldn't tell them apart. Anyway , last week I got up as usual for our school morning and noticed n had given himself a 'reverse mohawk', shaved a path right down the middle of his hair. I didn't much care for it but decided that I wouldn't say anything since in the scheme of things that was no big deal. Well, I got a call from the headmistress saying that he was pushing the dress code by dying his hair blonde. (like none of the girls dye their hair) and that his hair was unacceptble.SO>>> He proceeds to get the shaver out and cuts his hair. He looked like a mangy dog. He had blonde pieces and bald spots and it just looked comical. Again I didn't say anything except to ask what his friends and teachers said. He said his friends were upset that the teachers and headmistress made him cut his reverse mohawk and that they thought he had 'b*lls'for doing it. well, his highschool advisor said " well it looks a LITTLE better " So yesterday morning I got up and n had shaved his head completely and his EYEBROWS! Bless his heart he is 6'2 " and pretty skinny. He looks like he just stepped out of a concentration camp. Again I didn't say anything except to ask what everyone said. He said his friends liked it... I think they admire him for having the guts to look 'different than the other 'paperdoll' kids. I am proud that he is confident enough to be an individual. I just find it so interesting that he is so anxious about going to school and talking in front of the clss yet would do something like this to make himself stand out so much... Life is never boring around our house. I'll take this over the screaming and fighting anyday! The headmistress can kiss my feet. The boys are so interesting and fascinating to me. I am totally amazed by the way they think although I must admit sometimes it is baffling and hard to understand. Remind me to tell you a story about the way they think so 'literally' one day... Guest guest
I'll be glad to. I hope you think it's funny and I am NOT making fun of the kids.... When they were younger and had a stomach virus we would put them to bed and place a trash can by the bed and tell them that if they needed to throw up to use the trash can. Well about 2 years ago I went into the boys bathroom downstairs and there was vomit all over the wall and in the trash can. I said who got sick? n said I did about three days ago. (YUCK) I said why didn't you throw up in the toilet instead of the trash can? He said well, mom, you always told us to throw up in the trash can.. Well, I guess I did. I about threw up myself cleaning up 3 day old dried up puke!
