Guest guest
Sigh. Kate (non-PID) started with a fever around 4p yesterday, was 103 rectal by the time I checked it, in-laws on their way for dinner. Trying to cook dinner and both kids were underfoot (DH in living room having a ball talking with the grown-ups), fussy kids and I'm getting aggravated, next thing I know Kate is retching and splashing vomit all over the kitchen floor (then saying " uh ohhhh " over and over in this pathetic, sad little voice). Bon Appetit! Diarrhea started an hour later but not too awful bad (well, Kate might beg to differ but I've certainly seen worse in ) and she slept through the night, though the poor thing was burning up. Took her in today because it didn't smell like rota and I found it hard to believe it could be anything communicable, as didn't have it yet! They said gastro. Came home, took to Best Buy to buy a replacement computer mouse (ours died), she thought she had gas and had a poopy accident, nothing huge, but went to the bathroom and she had copious diarrhea for over 30 minutes in there!!!!!!!! Was in very good spirits though, really took it in stride with no whining or anything, except some complaints about being " bored " in the bathroom!!! My DH called to find out what was taking us so long, Kate was spiking a fever and calling for me, I had to inform him came down with it at Best Buy! Raced to the checkout line and turned around and raced right back to the bathroom!!! Made it through checkout and home and so far that was it, no vomiting yet and no big fever. I expect it will get worse before it gets better. I HATE gastro infections... those of you who have been here for years will know that's my broken record. gets a couple every spring, though thankfully they have been less severe every year. I just weaned Kate on Leap Day and here she gets a gastro infection, I can't help but wonder if I could have spared her this had I continued (due to the IgA and antibodies in breast milk). 'Course, I could say that when she's 10 years old too, doesn't mean I should feel bad for not going longer. I just can't believe she caught this 6 days after weaning!!!!!!! Sigh. Well, I'm just griping, no one understands better than all of you, that's for sure. Still haven't decided about 's school choice... Guest guest
Sigh, ! Sometimes these viruses will drive you nuts, won't they? We kept our kids out of church and Sunday School because our little town was hard hit with the flu. They missed 3 months of children's activities. The first Sunday they returned for just worship services, they came home with colds! Two weeks later and I'm still wiping copious snot! ARRRRgh! But it's not the flu!!! Guest guest
Pam: Oh, don't even start on church!! We never go! See, they have a children's program where partway in the mass they send all the kids out, the kids go to this room for kiddie church stuff. Well, it's a biiiiiiiiig church and tons of parishioners, so this room is literally wall-to-wall kids. Packed in like sardines. I'd estimate over a hundred kids all together at once. DH and I took one look at that and said, " can never go in there " . Well, she doesn't have a great attention span, so she can't sit through an hour-and-a-half mass, either!! So our head-in-the-sand solution is to not go at all. We don't feel good about this, but every time we go to church we end up glaring at our children throughout and bothering every person within hearing/seeing distance, so I don't know a better solution. We talk about religion lightly at home and say grace at every meal, and for now that's our church. But she should be starting CCD and all that soon, so we're going to have to figure something out. It's never a good time to experiment with the exposure, she's always sick from preschool and this fall will be Kindergarten.... you know where I'm going with this. GUILT!! Guest guest
Oh brother! Thought the girls were better with their tummy bug... well, is. She was tired and " cold " after school yesterday, but otherwise fair. Kate threw up again after snack, I guess she wasn't ready for regular food. Well, last night I put her to bed and was patting myself on the back at how easy she goes to bed and stays there, then this morning I found that she had vomited in her bed (huge) and did not call us. I wake at the slightest peep, so I know she didn't... it was dried up so I know it wasn't right when she woke up. I thank God she didn't choke to death. She actually wasn't even messy at all, she seems to have thrown up and then avoided that area of the crib for the rest of the night? I guess I turn the monitor up higher, but then I hear every time she moves at all! Just until she stops vomiting I guess. Sigh! This is a new one on me... she's still vomiting but her stools are nearly normal now.
