Guest guest Posted June 8, 2004 Report Share Posted June 8, 2004 As I understand it, depending on the type of PID a child has, the CBC counts may not be reflective of what is actually going on. In someone with a normal immune system, having an increased white blood cell count typically means a bacterial infection, but if the PID affects the child's ability to make white blood cells, the count may not accurately reflect the infection. Just like some PID's cause a child to be unable to mount a fever response even in the presence of an infection. The best resource in interpreting a PID child's test results, in my opinion, is an immunologist. My two.....
