Hi, I just joined the group and thought I'd share what's happening with my 8 year old (50 lb) son. We started him on valtrex twelve days ago. He vomited the first night when I gave him a full 500 mg pill. So it took about a week to get him up to the full dose of two 500 mg pills per day spread throughout the day. On the first day of the full dose he developed a pretty intense rash and still has it approx 5 days later. It looks like poison oak, raised bumps sometimes very red, sometimes more white. It is in such a weird pattern, splotches on his side, stomach and lower back then a line about 1/2 inch think going straight up his torso to his armpit. I'm hoping its a mercury rash. He is not actually showing signs of a big regression. If anything he seems to be a little more with it. Yesterday at the grocery

store he stayed with me, putting familiar products into the cart. It wasn't the usual chasing him around the store calling his name and being a spectacle. I am hopeful, but also afraid to get too hopeful. i've been on that roller coaster before. I chelated him extensively with no success really. Infact, I've probably tried every alternative therapy out there without success. I really am hoping valtrex is our lucky bullet. Does anyone know if chldren as old as 8 have actually recovered using valtrex? Are there more stories of recovery on valtrex besides Ethan's? I'm just trying to get my expecatations in line. Thank you so much. I'll conitnue to share my son's experiences with valtrex. P.S. We just started diflucan today.
