Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hi Stan! We are on our 20th day of Valtrex and this seems to be our miracle pill. This week, my 3.5 year old son's language skills have exploded. He is also starting to talk in simple sentences. His eye contact has improved unbelievably and is so much more aware. He responds to us almost all the time already and his social and play skills are now like the usual kids. I cannot believe how much he has transformed since we started using Valtrex. My concern right now is that my doctor wants me to temporarily stop Valtrex on the 30th day because he wants us to do the DMSA challenge test. I am so worried about temporarily stopping because of all the wonders that have happened to my son. Is is allright to stop this early? Will my son's liver be affected by Valtrex? Thanks! Pam Quote
Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 That's awesome Pam! Are you giving it to him 3x a day and may I ask how much? We are still only 2x a day at 250mg each dose, and have seen improvements but feel we probably need to go to 3x but are waiting for his liver enzyme test to come back as they were elevated last time. Thanks, --- pamtan2003 <pamtan2003@...> wrote: > Hi Stan! > > We are on our 20th day of Valtrex and this seems to > be our miracle > pill. Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hi Pam; So good to hear your son is responding to valtrex - and so quickly. Was your son high functioning before valtrex? Did he speak, socialize and have eye contact before starting? You mentioned a DMSA challenge - are you chelating with the valtrex? Sorry for all the questions! Kim :-) Valtrex - miracle pill Hi Stan!We are on our 20th day of Valtrex and this seems to be our miracle pill. This week, my 3.5 year old son's language skills have exploded. Quote

Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hi Pam! What great news to hear. My son is 3.5 years old. No official dx but, everyone I talk to feels (teachers, therapists, etc) are leaning towards PDD. He has some words, just started singing some songs (roughly), knows his abc's and counts to 10 (EI since 18 mos). No major sickness or allergies. No multiple ear infections. He does stim though and his speech delay is severe..way behind his peers. His DAN! dr wants to start Valtrex. I'm skeptical and was wondering if you share some more of your story. If you don't want to post please email me @ deb1073@... Thanks, Deb > > Hi Stan! > > We are on our 20th day of Valtrex and this seems to be our miracle > pill. Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Pamela, I had my son on GSE when he was 4 for 2 weeks. His echolalia and squealing, which were constant, stopped. He was silent except when speaking. I had read on danasview.net that you should use GSE for 2 weeks, so stopped it. The noises came back and took about another year and a half to get rid of again. If Valtrex is working so well for your son if it were me I wouldn't stop it for anything. You can chelate or whatever later. Hopefully you can get the prescription to keep going. He was very apraxic, started speaking 6 months ago, and would only speak single and one syllable words. Prior to Valtrex there was little socialization and poor eye contact. My doctor wants us to do the challenge test 10 days from now but wants to stop valtrex. I am not comfortable taking out valtrex this early and that is why I need an opinion on whether I should push through with this. Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Pam, Congrats! This is great! As a mom, I would never stop something that works so well, especially if you are just starting (day 20, right?). IMHO a DMSA challenge is dangerous and won't tell you much about mercury being an issue or not. That by itself could mess up your child with or without Valtrex. I chelated my son for years, and I never did a challenge (single high dose of a chelator), I test his hair instead. As a side note, I am still chelating my son while doing anti-virals. I use oral ALA, low and frequent doses, 3 days on 4 days off, and so far, so good... > > Hi Stan! > > We are on our 20th day of Valtrex and this seems to be our miracle > pill. Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 Hi Pam, How long would you be stopping for? Personally, I wouldn't stop if you see such good things. But for a day or two probably won't be a bad thing. - Stan - In mb12 valtrex , " deb1073 " <deb1073@...> wrote: > > Hi Pam! > What great news to hear. My son is 3.5 years old.
