Guest guest Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 We are considering a course of Valtrex for my son and I had a couple of questions. Are most people using commercially available Valtrex and washing off the blue coating or, do you recommend having it compounded? My son can swallow pills but I didn’t know if I should be concerned about inactive ingredients such as titanium dioxide. I know that having it compounded increases the cost substantially so I was hoping to hear what the best option is. Thanks in advance for your feedback! Quote
Guest guest Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 , I have my valtrex compounded and my insurance picks it up and it is only $25.00. Have your pharmacy call your insurance and see if they will pick it up. <linda62666@...> wrote: We are considering a course of Valtrex for my son and I had a couple of questions. Guest guest Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 I just had Lee Silsby compound mine. They had it to me in two days. My son tolerates the grape flavor. It's better then wrestling with him on the floor trying to get him to take his medications. BC/BS PPO will reimburse you on the cost of the compounding of Valtrex since it is a FDA approved drug. That is the kicker! One ingredient in a medication has to be FDA approved for them to cover the cost of making it into a compound. ---- Original Message ---- From: victoriacarlisi@... mb12 valtrex Subject: Re: Valtrex? Guest guest Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 We cut the regular pill in half, wash off the blue coating, crush it in a mortar and pestle, then mix with apple juice. We get the regularly available Valtrex paid for by the insurance. Yay! Finally something that the insurance will pay for! HTH, Quote

I live near Houston,Texas so you parents around me- anyone ever used a home health nurse? I need a recommendation. We want to start giving the boys their IV treatments at home (if we can acquire the meds we are using). any suggestions? thanks, lisa Re: Valtrex?> Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2006 19:05:30 -0700 (PDT)>> >,> > I have my valtrex compounded and my insurance picks it up and it>is> >only $25.00.
