My Dr has said he doesn't like to use Diflucan for more than 6 weeks due to liver problems it can create and that it's not meant to be a long term drug. (Granted, he could be wrong.) Is that as effective with antivirals? > > Thanks. > Sondra we just went back to nystatin after 6 weeks of diflucan as we were having horrible rages and meltdowns after an enormous bm. not sure if it was a reaction, a readjustment period, a enormous die off (but gave charchol_, or what, but very disturbing having your usually sweet one attack you for no reason scream and yell for no reason just really irritable and cranky. liver tests were fine but he was not and the day after stopping diflucan he was normal self. nystatin is working fine for the yeast this time and last. i may rotate diflucan in at another time but we will have to see if he need prescrips anymore and possibly move on to naturals. we did see some positives and had more die off before this episode had 4 good weeks on diflucan so it does work. > Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would try to talk your doc into trying Diflucan with liver enzyme tests every 6 weeks (that may be a nice compromise). In mainstream medicine, they don't typically believe in long term use of antifungals at all IMO. They are mostly concerned with issues like thrush that do often resolve in short term. IMO, this is more of a philosophic issue than anything else. I've not heard on report of a liver issue from Diflucan. - Stan > > I know most of you are using Diflucan. We give 3 pills per day. I read an essay that recommended up to 8 pills per day. These dose are much, much more than most doctors recommend or tolerate.
