Guest guest
Eastern Kentucky Nativity Scene In a small, Eastern Kentucky town, there was a "Nativity Scene" thatshowed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. In all itsbeauty, there was but one small feature that bothered me: the threewise men were wearing firemen's helmets.Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left, bewildered.I stopped at a "Quik Stop" on the edge of town for gas and coffee. Stillcurious, I explained to the lady behind the counter what I had seen andasked if she had an explanation for the helmets. She exploded in rage and yelled, "You darn Yanks never read yourBibles!"Taken aback, I assured her I did read my Bible, but simply couldn'trecall anything about firemen being at Jesus' birth.Well, righteously and fervently, she jerked her Bible from behind thecounter, riffled through the pages, and finally jabbed her finger at apassage. Thrusting it in my face, she said, "See, it says right here, 'The three wise men came from afar."Kathy Brunow
