Guest guest
Hi , I have just recently heard about Pectus Excavatum. My 14 yr old nephew just had surgery for it, CRAZY!! I had no idea there was even such a thing. Not sure how it relates to casting, but since the cast puts so much pressure on the rips I would think that it could help move them back into a better place. But you would for sure want to make sure your cast had the correct mushroom cut out in front, so it would allow for the movement. I would definitally talk to your doctor. Wouldn't it be great if the cast was actually helping the scoliosis and that!! Wonderful!! Noah 5yrs 6mo, 80 degrees to 12 in brace, 9 casts 5 braces from SLC Bex has one and it can mean things like tethered cord or not. It's case by case, I think. But if you see one you should rule things out, esp. spinal conditions. Heidi, Bexon's Mommy, (3.5 years old, in 9th cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 63 degrees to 14.6 in cast. It is small and shallow, and you can easily see the base of it.Both orthopedic surgeons we have seen (in Sydney Australia) have looked at it and said it was innocent and nothing to be concerned about. Both surgeons also said that there was no need for an MRI any time soon, but we are getting one soon anyway for our own reassurance.I have read that they are not any cause for alarm if they are in the 'gluteal crease' (aka butt crack), but on further reading saw that meant if it was within and inch of the anus and had no hair coming from it.Holly's dimple is shallow and small. It has a few tiny white blonde hairs in it (same as the very fine hair on her back) and it is more like 2 inches from the anus (but still within the butt crease).Just wondering if anyone had a child with this type of dimple, and what the outcome was. Here's hoping those orthopedic surgeons know what they're on about!Emma-Jane -- Leah Jeffries
Guest guest
I've mentioned here before that I actually have that myself in a mild case that doesn't show as an adult, but it bothered me as a kid. I have Googled and read it can be related to scoli. Heidi, Bexon's Mommy, (3.5 years old, in 9th cast from Salt Lake City Shriners, currently down from 63 degrees to 14.6 in cast.
