Hi Steph,

" His inflammation is reduced from 2006 (hurrah). "

This is brilliant news ! Is a lot of it down to Gaps then? in addition to the

medication/supps?

" His main problem is motility and IBS (related). "

What does Dr Fell recommend here then ?

His general IBS is reduced a bit since we started risperidone (and he's still

gaining weight, yay!

> No signs of reflux damage showed which surprised me as he has reflux big time

at present - burping, hiccoughing, rubbing upper chest etc. So still plenty to

work on but very good news that he's a bit better than he was

> Also had a very good Christmas, coped brilliantly. Result!

Really pleased for Tom and the whole family !

Dear Steph

The reflux burping issue is something we see in Tatijana... says that it stems from DDs diaphragm not siting properly on her stomach... so food is not progressing along colon properly... She is certainly getting better with the TST... and the follow on from incorrect positioning of diaphragm on stomach can be poor motility. What is really interesting is that the only way Tash releases her burps is by rubbing her chest gently until the burp is released..  Our advantage is that as she is NT we can clearly understand how she feels and what happens when she rubs her chest.

There is a big issue between pharma co and holistic views on reflux etc.. pharmaco likes to dish out antacids which alkali the system and so the body creates more acid... The holistic approach is to improve motility

Excellent news about your progress.. a lovely New Year's gift .. perfect

Best wishes

Tracey

the only suggestion we have for motitility is movicol. Which is fine up to a

point but my worry is that we create a muscle that forgets how to work. so no

suggestions from Dr F on this one other than movicol and we're looking at

curcumin again and other things that " tone " .

SCD/GAPS - not sure. We didnt' see the positives that most do whilst we were

following it religiously. What's helped is him being hungrier, eating more,

being better nourished. eating was a real chore for him, as though that message

never reached his brain. So we're about 70% GAPS now and would say that GAPS

plus chips (or equiv) is what's helping. Good food but some simpler carbs in

there too. Of course if it's IBS then we'd need to cut down on brocolli and

thinks that he likes. One for the new year!

all best

We do give Tom gaviscon - wonder if that's not helping. His burping is most

pronounced just before bed. In fact last night I kept him up for an extra hour

as I didn't want to even recline him in bed, the burping and gulping was so bad.

Perhaps we should feed him a lot earlier.
