Guest guest Report post Posted December 27, 2002 Hi I was reading your email on PLE and I think you may be the person to ask questions. Currently (our third) has a few DR's scratching their heads. So far the specialist haven't said he has PLE (the pead spoke about it) but we have had I think every test under the sun and are none the wiser. quick history Ben 12 mths 10 corrected, preemie because of major infection and got thrush. Thought we had it solved and got him home in 3 weeks (cruising) But he had picked up golden staf which just wouldn't leave. (IV antibiotics x2) Recognized reflux and got him started on zantac (BTDT). Now this is where we thought we had him all worked out 3mths he looked well (eating and spitting) but still growing, slowly. He had been coughing for a few weeks but we just said REFLUX but he ended up in hospital with broncolitis (this 2 days after a well baby check at Drs and no cold symptoms). Then we were on the hospital merrygo round back and forward always same symptoms but could never culture anything. After 3 hospital admit Drs started thinking aspiration so tried different reflux meds (made no difference). After another hospital admit, on O2 for a week and meds doing diddly squat, we were off to see the specialists (gastro and Pulmo) for a endo and bronc scopes.endo showed reflux (funny that) so changed to losec biopsies showed nil. bronc looked clear YAY!! but cultured bugs 1 being ecolli YUCK. Blood showed lots of problems with immune system and the routine stool showed loss of protein?? Told to go home and repeat stool and blood 2-3 mths. Well we have just done that and he is still losing protein so the gastro ordered a mikles scan, a barium follow through and a hydrogen breath test. First 2 ok but breath test came back and the Dr said he has too much bugs in small bowel take this antibiotic hope he gets better. GRRRRRR no mention of protein. Immune system still a problem. So we are currently doing the wait and see. So I checked his blood results from Aug and the albumin you were talking about was normal. We know his IgG is low and 3 out of the 4 sub classes also as well as IgA and t cells. We know he is losing protein we just don't know why? when I look at him I think he looks healthy. He b'fed (sometimes 5+ times a day) and eating table foods. His weight looks healthy 10 kg I think that s21 lbs.(that could be cause he feeds so much) So that why we are scratching our heads. Can you shine a light on the subject. thanks for reading Dale
