Guest guest Posted November 15, 2002 Report Share Posted November 15, 2002 This isn't a question, but I was hoping someone would know the answer due to all the experience with different antibiotics. My entire family was sick for over 2 weeks, and are finally recovering. My non-pid son and I were put on Zithromax. It didn't work for him and he ended up on Augmentin. I was also put on Zithromax, and it wreaked havoc on my digestive system. I have chronic gastritis and take Nexium 2x/day. I am having burning pains in my right side (right where my waist bends; this is all following a week of nausea, constipation, diarrhea, etc.) which all begin the day after I started taking the Zithromax. I went to see the Physician Assistant, who decided I was having pain from constipation. She switched me to Amoxicillin in case the Zithromax was bothering me. This week I still had the pain, and saw the doctor who ordered an ultrasound in case it was something with my gallbladder. If not, he says, he believes my gastritis has moved down to my duodenum because of the Zithromax. He told me to stop the Amoxicillin, and now my throat infection is back. They won't put me back on anything until they found out what the ultrasound shows. Has anyone heard anything so bizarre about an antibiotic? It just seems crazy that 3 pills (I didn't even get through all 5!) could cause me weeks of pain and discomfort.
