Guest guest
be consistant when he goes to take them off, catch him, put them back on and reinforce heavily. My son does this all the time. we basically just make sure at home he at the very least wears underwear and a shirt. When we go in the back yard if he takes them off he goes immediately back inside. every time. it is a huge pain in the butt, but he at least now leaves his clothes on outside the home. Guest guest
Overalls might help some, but don't be surprised if he is able to pull the diaper out of them. I wouldn't buy more than one pair to see. They are also a hassle at diaper changing time.

Guest guest
<< try oneies >> Try the oneies as mentioned. Or the overalls put on backwards where the hooks would be on his back instead of his front side. The other thing would be great if they made the maintenance man jumpsuits for little guys, like the one piece PJ's that kids where in the winter with the feet in them. Guest guest
My little guy takes of his shorts and diaper as well. We put on shorts with a drawstring. Also try putting underwear over the diaper then shorts. Or, you can put swimming shorts on over a diaper. These little guys are smart! It is hard trying to keep one step ahead of them. Good-luck. Guest guest
When we had a similar problem we used shorts/pants that had belt loops and we put a belt on him. Fine motor skills are not his strengths so it would work. Another thing a doctor had suggested is putting a leotard on under his clothes. We never tried that because of all of his sensory issues. Good luck. Won't leave clothes on!!!!! HELP! My 5-1/2 yr old who has severe Autism will not leave his diaper and shorts on. EVER! I can put one on 20 times a day. Guest guest
Deanna, Take heart, our son was the same way at that age. He's mostly past it now at age 9. It never progressed to the point he got naked in public, but if his clothes were the tiniest bit wet, off they came. He still skinny dips some here at home when he plays in the water, but at the pool and lake he stays dressed. Don't know why it changed, but there's hope it will. Also, our older son could get out of any and all diapers by age one. We took to wrapping duct tape around them. Had to keep scissors on the changing table, but he couldn't get it off. I know you're thinking this is a redneck joke in the making, but it worked. Tonya

Guest guest
Deanna, My son did this for a little while. We did use overalls for about 2 weeks but not exclusively. We did not make a big deal about taking his diaper off so that he didn't get a lot of attention from it. He just stopped doing it after a few weeks. In our case it was for attention and when he didn't get a big deal made out of it, he stopped. When he took of his pants and diaper we would say something like " Well, we have to go to the potty " and we would go to the potty and he would sit on it to see if he had to go and then put back on the diaper and pants. I know you may have to keep a very close eye on him and do this a lot but the less of a big deal you make about it I think the better. The only other possibility could be if he just started wearing those kinds of diapers and they are bothering him. Some different kinds of fabrics, paper, etc can bug him. If it is the same diapers you were using before he started doing this, then that is not the case. Hang in there Won't leave clothes on!!!!! > HELP! Guest guest
Deanna, Okay, we have been battling this for a couple of months now...we tried onesies--he figured out that he could get the diaper off and then stretch out the onesie to get it over his shoulders & off! The onesies did work for a month or so. So, then just here recently I went out for overalls...I found some denim striped ones at Wal-Mart Clearance rack for $3! I saw lots of 4t & 5t still there the other day if your son happens to be those sizes; I only bought 2prs and just try to keep up the wash. Since, he only does it at home...we just change to go out now. Otherwise I have a little farmer boy running around my house!! Also, we just noticed here in the last couple of weeks that is getting ready to potty-train! He gets out of the pool to pee now and wants to go upstairs to change; whenever he pees in his diaper, he wants it off immediately. You may want to look into this possibility; now since we are aware of what he is headed towards...we have the potty chair ready and we just wait to jump and assist whenever possible now. peed 2x this week and did #2 a little the other day!!!!! YEEHAW!!! Good luck sweetie; I know and understand the expense thing. When I went to Wal-Mart that day for the overalls I had decided that if they were more than $4; I was going to the thrift stores! Just a thought. Other than that; hang in there and good luck to you all!! Nikki > Won't leave clothes on!!!!! > > > > HELP! Guest guest
>HELP! My 5-1/2 yr old who has severe Autism will not leave his diaper and shorts on. EVER! < Have you ever had a behavior expert come in the home to help you with certain behaviors? We did for about 18 months and it helped immensely. Tristan did have a problem similar to the one you described, and still likes to take his clothes off at home. We used behavior management techniques taught us, and have it under control. I have started using his favorite activity, etc as an incentative for him to get dressed. I use PECS also. It takes time and effort, but most of the challenging behaviors disappear and then are replaced with new ones, lol.

Guest guest
Deanna, We went through this stage with our daughter. Since they diagnosed her with Sensory Integration Dysfunction before she was classified as autistic, they kept saying it was a sensory issue. She did not like the feel of clothes on her skin nor did she like diapers. We had an occupational therapist try brush compression therapy on her. They trained us first and we did this every 2 hours. It was hard fighting her down to do this but we saw a tollerance for many of the sensory things soon after we started. After we did every 2 hours for a while, we moved to every 4 then every 6 and now we do not do it at all. Our daughter is still wearing diapers (pull ups) and she keeps everything on unless she spills something on herself or she urinates. Once she does that, she usually pulls the pull up off and throws it away herself and asks for another one. But at least we no longer have a crying fit every time we spill something or a sensory issue arises. The therapy consists of literally brushing the child's arms and legs with a certain type of brush (doctor's use them clean up before surgery). You brush firmly and consistantly then you do joint compressions. An occupational therapist can explain what I'm talking about and they can easily train you to do this yourself. My daughter would not tollerate anyone touching her so I had to do it. She did not like me touching her either at first, but she is over that now. She has come so far that she initiates hugs and kisses now! I don't know if this will help your child but as I said, it did stop ours from pulling her clothes and diaper off and wanting to walk around naked 24 / 7. She was 3 started this and we stopped when she was 4 years old. She just turned 6. Corina

Guest guest
Ah, I remember our nudist stage well. For him, I think it was a combo sensory and control issue. So we really hit the tactile stuff hard like regular brushing, playing in sand and birdseed, playing with cloths and items with various textures, etc. At the same time, we respectfully and continuously requested that he dress for short periods of time but allowed him to disrobe when he felt the need to. We'd encourage him to keep on the clothes for longer periods and would save the really fun games and activities for when he was wearing clothes. It did take quite awhile to get him to stay dressed but he finally did. Gaylen
