Guest guest
I noticed in reading through posts, that there are some parents who have also been diagnosed themselves with a PDD. Could you tell me if you were dx AS adults, and if so, who did you see for the dx? Thanks in advance! Scarlett

Could you tell me > if you were dx AS adults, and if so, who did you see for the dx? I was diagnosed about 1950, but I have no written proof. I got a letter saying I am HFA (autistic but speaking) from the Emory Autism Center a few years ago. It helps me with communication issues with bureaucracies and physicians -- I make them write out instructions for me. I wasn't re-evaluated -- but I had been in an adult autism support group there and they knew me well. My partner got an Asperger diagnosis from Emory very recently. He's still waiting for the write-up. We have a support group for adults on the spectrum here in Metro Atlanta. Check it out on the Autism Society web page: http://www.asaga.com Or email me about it. Guest guest
-Sorry for the confusion. dx is diagnosis for short. AS was written to emphasise the word, because i wanted to know if diagnosis was AS an adult, or AS a child. My brother is one year younger than me, and I need to find someone skilled enough to see if he fits....I think he does. He's been unemployed for 10 years, and while most would see him as depressed, i grew up with him. Thank you for your reply! Guest guest
Hi, , and thank you for your response. I am trying to locate someone skilled in diagnosing adults with Pervasive Developmental Disorders for my brother. There is not a lot of help for grown men who have been unemployed for 10 or more years, and the older my own child gets, the more i recognize in him. Maybe he's clinically depressed, but it seems deeper than that to me. His personality just soooo fits somewhere on the spectrum. At the very least, he needs help in securing employment. I'm not close enough to help, and my mother thinks she'll live forever, and is great at caregiving, but not so great at pushing for greater things for oneself. He is a fabulous painter and muscician, but lacks the social skills to market anything, plus there is the " it's not good enough " issue. Anywhoo, I'm rambling. I really appreciate your response!
