Hello, all. I had a good thing happen with Tyler last night. He never

joins in conversations. He will answer you if you ask him which movie

he wants to watch. He will say " Hood " if he wants to watch Robin Hood

or " Song " if he wants to watch the sing-a-long songs. But he only

answers with one word answers. Anyway, last night he was lying in bed

with my husband and me. I was talking to my husband when I said (at

Tyler) " Tyler doesn't like to brush his teeth like Sissy does,

Daddy " . Tyler responded with " It hurts. " I was so excited that he had

a two word answer and was actually listening to our conversation. I

could have cried. He also said " I love you " for the first time last

week.

We are so happy with his progress. He is actually playing with my

hair right now telling me to " Come on. Night-night. " He likes me to

lay down with him while he goes to sleep.

We go for his first IEp meeting this coming Monday. Wish me luck!

  • 1 year later...

I was just so excited about this e-mail that I decided to share it. Tyler's teacher sent me this today. We have started his gluten free breakfasts (10 week plan) this week and this is a major step for him. It gives me great hope for this diet and for him! I am so excited.

Hi! I didn't get to write you another note after lunch today because it

was very hectic...we only have 15 mins after lunch before they go home ...

He had a very different day today as I had noted in his behavior chart. At

lunch he wouldn't sit still at all and kept yelling...so I told him that

we where going back to the room and sit in time out and he would have to

eat his lunch in the classroom without his friends... I held his hand all

the way to the classroom with him yelling "no time out" we came into the

room I pointed to the timeout chair ...he sat quietly for a few minutes

and then I had him sit at the table beside me to eat his lunch...I started

cutting out an activity that we are going to do next week when out of the

blue he said "Miss Debbie I'm sorry" which blew me away (one the few times

that he has called me my name without prompting him)then the next thing he

did pulled at my heart strings.... he reached over grabbed my hand and

gave me a kiss on my hand and said "I love you" and then went back to

eating his lunch. He was fine the rest of the day - bathrooming and music

(20 mins).
