Hi ,

I was wondering what anti ovarian antibodies are, are they related

somehow to chronic inflammation? I just recently heard someone talking

about this and I have never heard of it, Thanks, Louise.

Thank you for your answer, there is so much to learn and it is nice to

have folks on this site who know so much. The conversation I heard

referring to these anti ovarian antibodies was concerning miscarriages.

I understand many people with Stills Disease test positive for Lupus, is

that what your situation is and do you also have Dx of Lupus. There was

much talk when I was sick about 1980 about Lupus also.

Sorry to be a bother tonight, I am very interested.

have you actually started nursing school? I think you really

ought to pass that up and go for your MD, you are a very talented and

sharing lady, thanks, Louise.

Patty are you up also? I hope you are in better health tonight and not

up because of pain somewhere! I always enjoy 's wisdom and I am

just amazed at all she has done for our group. Don't you think she

should go for a medical degree, perhaps we would finally get a wise,

dedicated and compassionate professional. Take care, Louise.

I just recently found out that still's itself can cause premature ovarian

failure, in essence early menopause, both of the infertility specialists

that Im seeing now believe mine was caused by the still's and probably not

the methotrexate since it was a low dose. Im going to try and get them to

do a blood test for anti ovarian antibodies to see if I have them.

Louise, basically they are antibodies produced by the body to target key

cells in the ovaries that stops the ovarian response to ovulation resulting

in infertility and early menopause. They are not really tied with chronic

inflammation, but the link between these and other types of antibodies with

immune issues is being studied and is still quite controversial. I

personally belive there is a connection.

I have anticardiolipin antibodies which are very common in Lupus and other

autoimmune diseases and they are responsible for miscarriages and

implantation failures, deep vein thrombosis and strokes.

All of these antibodies are similar- the ANA- is one of them, that's the

test for lupus. You produce antibodies to viruses when you are exposed,

which makes me think that some kind of virus triggers some autoimmune

disease and the antibody response.

There are alot of women who have unexplained infertility and miscarriages

and some docs have been looking into the immune system. You can have too

many NK cells in your uterus causing the embryo not to develop so now they

are using enbrel on some women to lower the nk cells, just like they use it

with us to lower these same cells that is responsible for the inflammation

in our joints.

well I know this is a little more than what you wanted, sorry..:-) Immune

related infertility became something that I started researching over 2 years

ago when I was trying to find women who took enbrel while pregnant and I

have followed the control group in the study for that reason, never really

thinking that I may need the info for myself regarding infertility.

Tatjana I forgot to tell you that your docs can give you meds to induce a

period, in the us they usually give Provera, a hormone for 10 days this will

bring on menstuation. The stills itself could be contributing to this

also, my cycles were messed up during my onset and the first year, once I

started methotrexate and got the stills under control my periods became

normal again, my Rheumy said that is a good sign of health when you have

moderate to heavy periods and the reason I skipped periods and had very

light ones was because of the stills.

Ive been seeing a fertility specialist and it is so stressful, Im so sick

trying to find my fertile time, having bloodwork drawn every day, Ive been

having ultrasounds to see if Im even ovulating and the size of the

follicles, Ive read so much on infertility I think my head is spinning. I

just want to find out exactly what is wrong with me. that's my main goal.

becasue if I am truly in the beginning of ovarian failure then I need to be

on fosamax or hrt to prevent any more bone loss. my labs were good this

month though, but my follicles never matured. so Im just waiting the two

weeks until I begin my period and the testing will start all over again.

it's just crazy. I will keep on testing and trying things throughout the

fall but if nothing happens within 6 months we are moving onto adoption. I

dont want to take fertility meds either, I dont want to take a chance of

having multiples. and too I wonder if it's better for me not to have a baby

because of the stills and the hip replacements...
