I am so thankful that my little Micah's birth mom allowed him to have life and

give him up. We cannot imagine our lives without him. He lights up the entire

family. He was a great and precious gift sent to us from God and we consider

ourselves soooo blessed!!!!

Hi! Welcome....I'm Diane and my son is 5. He was born w/ Av Canal

defect, asd, common valve (and they closed his PDA) . He had corrective surgery

at 11 weeks old. You'd never know it (except for his " zipper " on his chest).

Where do you lve? we are in Pennsylvania and his surgery was in New Jersey at

the Deborah Heart and Lung Center.

Having a child w/ DS has made me a much better person. I don't take things for

granted and I have MUCH more patience now than before. LOL

Looking forward to knowing you all better.

Kathy,

If someone from this list writes something like that, forward it on to me or

Kathy. I remember making a comment like that when was a baby and

someone got offended, too. Turns out she was still in the grieving process and

with time, she became one heck of an advocate for her child and others with DS.

ps hope no one is afraid to post here......

hi lisa,

i think you have found the right place to get answers to alot of your

questions. i myself am mom to ben 17 ds and alex 14 nda. i am involved in a

support group and we have had two new families in the last few months that

have joined because they were expecting a child with ds. i am happy to say

that the on family was thrilled to get as much info as possible and still

attends now after her little boy was born. the other family is still

pregnant so hopefully we are helping them also.

there are a wide range of kids with ds in our group: six months (everyone

wants to hold him so you have to get there early to get in line, lol), three,

four, six, eight, ten, 12 and my ben who is the oldest at 17. i think its

nice to have the new parents see all the different kids, with their different

abilities and strengths. hopefully we have given them so info to get them

started when their baby does arrive. we also have a kit that we have at the

local hospitals that are given to new parents with a ds baby. let me know if

you would be interested and i can see if i can send one to you and your

family.

one thing, we didnt find out our son had ds until he was about four months

old. by that time we loved him so very much that nothing they told us could

ever make a difference. he did have some major heart problems that actually

were diagnosed first so that was our biggest concern. once we were past the

sugeries, life was great!

enjoy you new baby and congrats!

let me know if you ever want to talk. i may be an oldie but i still remember

when my ben was a baby. lol

kerrie mom to ben 17ds and alex 14 nda (but really adhd)

Well I have

spent the past 48 hours doing a lot of research and

looking at

all my options and after been in touch with several research centers throught

the country and submiting my situation to them I just heard from Cabrini

Medical Center in New York where Dr Dieterich which is the Chief

of Gastroenterology/Hepatology for the Department of Medicine in

New York

is conducting a clinical trial using the new treatment.

The reason

that I need to move quickly on my situation is because my co-infection

with HIV could make my wait for treatment to be fatal. Since I also have

relatives that live in New York I believe that I'm going to go for it.

I will have to stay in New York for the first 30 days then I can come back

to Atlanta and fly

once a month

for my doctors appointments. I'm meeting with my

liver specialist

tommorow and will talk to my family and pastor. So things a beginning to

look a lot brighter for me again. I'm going to go ahead and go see my grandma

next week and get through a trip to mexico that I have for memorial day

so I'm looking at the begining of june to start. I just wanted to keep

you

updated on

my situation and keep me on your prayers. Take Care!

Hello Carol!

I feel extremelly comfortable with the trial since is conducted by

Dr Rieterich since he specialize in cases like mine where a co-infection

exist. He has written several books about hepatitis C and is the president of the Hepatitis Resource Network. I spoke to my family last night and my mother and sisters are going to meet me in New York . I'm

on my way to see Dr Rubin now to discuss this with him. About this nice

weather that we are having here!!! Take Care and have a great day!

Good Morning Lyn!

I hope everything is going well with you. I actually done the cake

once before for one of my sisters and it came out really pretty. This one has to be a bit bigger because there is more people but

I'm just going to take my time so everything will come out right. Since I already have everything in order for my trip to New York; I just wanted to keep my mind occupied in between and at the same time be there for my friend Cheryl. I promise not to overdo

myself ! Take Care!
