Thank you Maralee. Your situation sounds similar to mine. We tried

Trileptal and that too made him worse. I think we may have the right

combo right now though. He is taking Risperdal, Prozac, and

Clonodine.... very small doses of each and is doing well for once!

And I am very pleased with his behavior for the most part. However, I

think we are having a huge manic week.

He was reasonably calm (for a kid), but he was a nighttime neighborhood

prowler. His rages didn't really begin until he was at the end of

middle school, and it got really bad (for all of us) when he hit his

mid-teens. We were honestly afraid we were going to have to have him

confined, because I was home with him most of the time and he was a lot

bigger than me. If he lost it, I couldn't control him. I once put

myself out of the apartment and wouldn't let him open the door, just so

I could catch my breath from one particular beating. It just broke my

heart, always, because it was so obvious, always, that he didn't want to

be doing what he was doing and couldn't stop himself. It is, without a

doubt, the most horrible thing I " ve ever been through. I blessed the

day we found out about Risperdal because it gave our son back to us.

And if you ask Louie if he'd like to stop taking his meds, he gives a

flat " No! " (he's been asked that by his dr.). He knows what the meds

have done for him, and he's unwilling to chance that he would return to

the way he was before meds if he stopped taking them. We respect his

decision.

Thanks for asking!
