Hi Sharyn & Stacey...

I have read your discussion about supplements and I had some info I would like

to share too. This whole vitamin discussion has taken place several times on a

few groups and I find it is one of the topics that some feel strongly about and

some dont. I actually try to stay out of it cause it gets heated sometimes..I am

one of those that feels extremely strong about it. and for many reasons...

First, I would like to address the doctor side of it. Yes, I agree with what you

said about your doctor saying it wasnt FDA approved and he didnt feel

comfortable recommending things that werent. I have found, after using a few

different brands, a company that manufactures supplements to the same grade as

medication....called Pharmaceutical Grade. No matter what brand you

choose....try to go with Pharmaceutical Grade. Another thing I would like to

mention...is this company that I chose to use is listed in the Physician's Desk

Reference Guide. That is pretty impressive for a supplement to be in there. So,

if a doctor wants to look in his PDR he will find what the best products are to

recommend....like Usana.

As far as the mention of vitamins and minerals not being studied...they have

been studied. It is proven that there are essential vitamin & minerals that our

bodies need. (I am not talking about Herbal remedies). Also, it is pretty

impossible, even if we are great eaters to eat all the daily needed V & M's in our

day. That is why supplements work so well. We can know we are getting them in.

Especially, with kids with special needs. My son is an ok eater. but he lacks

eating the really good stuff. No veggies, little fruit, no fish (but I wouldnt

want him to with all that mercury)..so I did alot of shopping around and a

friend of mine recommended Usana Health Sciences to me. I started my son on

it...the multi chewable and the OptOmega (3, 6 & 9's - pure brain food). Now, I

was never a vitamin person myself...just my prenatals...but I became so amazed

at the company, their story, the founders story, articles on autism and how

nutritionals take an important roll. I decided to join with my other 2 friends

and we became " Special Moms For Special Kids " and we go to conferences, etc and

try to share all the information we have with everyone. Also, I wanted to

mention there are doctors out there that do specialize in nutritional

medicine...like Dr. Ray Strand. Check out his 2 websites if you have time.

www.bionutrition.org or www.drraystrand.com

The bionutrition site has sections for members but I copied the address that

talks about asthma since someone asked about it. I dont know if you will reach

it but try:

Another great doctor who talks alot about good nutrition is a pediatrician in

southern cal....Dr. Wood. check out her site: www.kidseatgreat.com

and if you are interested in seeing my info: http://randigoldman.usana

Usana products are also mentioned and recommended on www.talkautism.org

O- I wanted to mention that it is always good to google topics like: autism

essential fatty acids (read that it is great) and now my newest fear is: type is

autism fluoride or ADHD fluoride...this is new for me but I am horrified by the

articles I am reading about fluoride!!!! It is in the metal family like mercury.

and they are saying that putting it in our drinking water (since the 1940's) has

made us all a part of a dangerous experiment. And they should stop fluorinating

the waters because it is poisoning us. o-it is worth checking out..I am still

reading the articles I printed a few days ago.

I think I wrote wayyyyy to much and so sorry about that. I feel like I could

keep going :)

Happy researching!
