Guest guest
We have exactly the same experience with our son, when we fly to Germany (and we go from a non-sea environment to another) – he makes huge leaps that stay on for a while and then disappear again. I have several ideas why that is and I thought I’d share: a) Different environments, different allergens (friends with hey fever that moved across the Atlantic either way have about 2 years of allergy free living, then the immune system starts reacting to the new environment). No stress and usual demands to be on time (since holidays), more relaxed parents and no point of reference to stress over changes (e.g. new room therefore no pain if something moves or changes after initial transition) c) Flying as short HBOT session, pressure changes in airplane might be beneficial, but not long-lasting d) Different foods, not allergy inducing, even down to the meat being fed with different grains Christiane
Guest guest
Hi Christiane, It's interesting, isn't it? Do his leaps disappear even if you stay in Germany? Meaning it's not Germany something about the transition that makes the difference? I never considered that as we only spent a short time in Spain on holiday. With Tom we don't have many stresses or demands to be on time as he's home schooled although there is a different atmosphere and we are more 'together' and 'happier'' as a family, beneficial for all children not just ours. I never thought of the aeroplane being beneficial. That's definitely a possibility. We took every single bit of Tom's food with us so in our case it wasn't that! I wonder how many people have experiences like this. Guest guest
Hi Christianne, When exactly do you see changes? Already at disembarkation (might indicate HBOT effect)? Waiting in line for passport/ID review ( might reflect acclimatization to a different environment in terms of allergens)? Or do you have to wait a few days? The third question would amongst other things reflect a food issue. Interesting your observations about people moving from States to the UK having a 2 year hiatus from allergens. Can't speak about allergens but the Amis who moved to Germany I knew came down with everything in the book, all sorts of respiratory problems. I think the point about stress is quite relevent and certainly the pressurised cabin being somewhat like a HBOT. Guest guest
Hi Sara/All What an interesting thread thanks for making me think about this. I was trying to scan back thru holidays and we have also had quite similar things. I remember a few years ago we rented a house to go to PECS summer school it was a very small cottage and we had s computer in the sitting room so she was with us all the time, just me and Harry back then. had a great few weeks, not really physically, still peed a lot etc but I think she benefitted a lot just being totally immersed in us, our sole focus and really we didnt do so much there as it was a horrible little place, we did the extra bits we had to do when she was at summer school. Of course the PECS really helped too so maybe thats not a great example. We have had other experiences where has been tip top beyond our wildest imaginings. like when we went to NY to have her scoped, again just me and Harry and Becks. Even before no food and being scoped she was pretty brilliant. I think this is one of the things that attarcts me to the Son Rise programme its total immersion in your child which althougth challneging brings such good results for many families (not all I know and it just doesnt float everyones boat, but you get my drift). The different environments that we have been in with Becks we have tried somewhat to replicate them abck home like shifting her computer into the kitchen not the playroom and it doesnt carry over so well. I think a lot is, as you have all mentioned, less stress and more togetherness with way less demands. For me whan I am at home, I am on the computer, cooking, cleaning, tidying, phone, whinging about all the toys and mess and hundreds of other stuff..... Its just a bit less full on away from home, maybe I need to ditch all my worldly possessions and live in a yurt in the field behind us, OR (bit drastic that last bit!!) maybe I need to have a think about this and learn some stuff, mmm, off for a think! Have a Happy Day Lotsa Luv Caroline xx

They often send me about ten because I run the battersea treating autism support group, if you choose to do it there course is a one week course in london, I know a long way from scotland but caudwell fund all of it except they ask for a donation towards it of around £200.00, if you cant find the web site I can send you a dvd it works quite well as a program does not have to be an empty room but is time comsuming!!! 18 months ago my son could not play now he is quite good at playing and intervening with peers and hardly stims except in front of the swings!! If you want a DVd let me know Isobel you could try www.optioninstitiute.org and then click on autism or sonrise...
