Our daughter has SI issues. We have been working with a nutritionist

( Dorfman) to deal with primarily with anxiety and related

issues. This is the last supplement suggested, and now appears

to be a good time to try it, before our daughter goes back to school.

Thanks, , Just a couple more questions, if you don't mind. The

first being, what made you try taurine? Did you figure that out on your

own or did you have some sort of test? Also, does it do anything else

besides color? I'm wondering because Olivia has only had, maybe, 3 dark

stools in her life. (She's 3). I've mentioned this to her GI and she

doesn't seem at all concerned with the color. I've always thought bm's

are supposed to be brown, not yellow. We just started AFP, we're on week

2 but not at every meal. I'd like to start NF next but am interested in

the taurine. I was kind of hoping the enzymes would even out her GI and

bm issues.

Thanks again,

Rhonda

yellow is not good but i think light brown can be ok

high milk diets can make the stool lighter.

calves on mothers milk have yellow stools interestingly.

i think yellow is striaght lack of bile. pep seems to help with

colour. lack of bile can be a yeats problem.

HI,

My 7yr old son has a history of febrile seizures. On average about 1 a year.

Last year in April, he had a seizure at school without the fever. The neuro

said if he has another one without fever he will put him on Meds. I don't think

I want him medicated on a daily basis for something that happens so

infrequently. Do you think the Taurine would be a good thing for us to give?

What else

does it help with?

TIA,

Rhonda in CA

Hey Rhonda!

I think Livvy has a problem with bile production based on what Andy Cutler has

stated in the past(along with other docs).Did you get a stool and parasitology

test done from great smokies? That will tell you if her chymotrypsin levels are

low.....could indicate pancreatic disfunction.Nolan has this. Also do you give

her milk thistle? That would help detox the liver .

Take Care,

Taurine produced neuro irritability for our daughter. Even though

her plasma amino acid showed a low value for this, it was associated

with seizures each time we tried it. After chelating for a time she

could tolerate it in low doses. She takes glycine daily with no

adverse response.

Taurine is also being given to a friend's autistic son who tested

very high in some neurotransmitters. In fact, I believe the only one

low was seratonin, all the others were several times higher than the

high end of the ref range. This formula, which includes taurine,

seems to be helping him.

Tina:

We give our 82 lb son two doses of taurine/day for a total of 2,000 mgs. It

has been a very helpful supplement. The dose you are giving is still quite

low but it varies depending on the child. We have seen nothing negative with

taurine. Good luck.

Tina,

It may depend on why you are giving the taurine but I have

sucessfully given it only at night for several years.

Tina, I give it at night only also. It really made my son sleepy during the

day, so I learned quickly to use it at night, and take advantage of the

situation.

The research on it shows that it is helpful for fat digestion/bile production

and reducing seizures. Many report that it helps some kids with focus and

hyperactivity as well.

Hi , i started giving my son Taurine when his liver enzymes were

double the high range. Maybe a coincidence but his next CBC liver

enzymes results were within normal range after being on Taurine for 1

month. I currently give it 4x/day along with other supplements but am

considering switching to 1x/day.god Bless. Tina in NY

Our DAN wants us to try the Taurine to increase bile production and darken

stool.

I used Taurine for about 6 months. It was very helpful for that time,

but then I removed it without problems.

I used Taurine for my son for a while. Started at 250 mg, worked up

to 500 mg per day. I did about a week at 1000 mg but did not notice

any difference from the 500 mg days.

> I just recently started using taurine, (per Dr. McCandless's book

and recommendation) and I gave my son 1/4 of the dose I want him to

achieve. His BM yesterday was VERY foul smelling, (almost like

metal?) and very dark. He once again began sweating through his head

only at his nap, and then again last night while he slept. I would

SWEAR his sweat smelled a bit metallic--it had an odor I have not

smelled on him before, and that is the best way I can describe it.

Sweating at night or while sleeping at naps is a common symptom of

detox. So either he is not tolerating the taurine, or his body is

working on eliminating other nasties.

" Taurine: Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid which is

important in the production of bile salts and, therefor, in the

native excretion of toxins and absorption of fats and fat-soluble

substances. Many autistic children are deficient in taurine and

benefit from a supplementation of 250 - 500 mg/day. A maximum dose

of 2 grams/day in adults and adult-sized children is recommended. "

would SWEAR his sweat smelled a bit metallic--it had an odor I have

not smelled on him before, and that is the best way I can describe

it. My son reacted this same way (with the sweating through his

head while he slept) when I first put him on Glutathione and

Selenium. I also saw HUGE improvements in

behavior/interaction/cognitive function at this time, also. Parents

on the Chelation2 list said that their children did this when they

first started chelation. I'm not DOING chelation, yet--simply using

taurine! Could it be that taurine is chelating somewhat for my

son? Just as the selenium and Glutathione seemed to do? Anyone

else have a similar response to taurine? I used to be frightened

when my son would sweat while he slept, but now I'm like, " Yea!

You're sweating again! " because I know he's getting toxins out at

some level! :)

Rose Marie,

I think we started out with Klaire's, but any form that is

pharmaceutical-grade is probably okay. Now we're using something called

Pure Encapsulations that we get from Dr. Usman's office. He started out

taking (I think) 250 mg. twice a day??? Now he's only taking it once. As

we chelate, we hope his need for it diminshes. I haven't seen a seizure in

a LONG time, except after a week of hyperbarics.
