Guest guest
Whoa , that IS intense. I love working with heavy weights, so in a weird way that does sound kind of fun, pushing myself, but extremely hard at the same time. Does he know that you call him the personal torturer?:-) I could almost see that being a gimmick. The boot camp/torture variety seems to be very popular here right now and I could picture some of the men carrying that title with pride:-) We have one that has a take no prisoners feel to him and I have thought a session with him might be fun??? Now I am a little scared:-) Download the AOL Classifieds Toolbar for local deals at your fingertips.

Guest guest
too funny (about dancey pants and lifting weights being work)! I'm soooooo the opposite! But, I'm finding that the more I push myself to do intense, long cardio workouts the more I'm enjoying them because I'm building up my endurance and they don't make me feel so easily defeated anymore. Sorry, sort of anyway, to hear how sore you are, it is such a good pain though! / second session with the personal torturer , *I* can't even handle them! That's the beauty of the trainer, they MAKE you do it and it moves so fast you don't have time to know what hit you! I'm not like Darcy or who push themselves to lift heavy. I'm a dancey pants kickboxing and step type person, a cardio fiend. Lifting weights seems like... work to me. I am so sore - last night could barely pull the seatbelt down and into the clicker and lifting coffee to my lips hurts, I've been using my left hand for a lot of things because it's not as sore as my right side. I don't think > I could handle them:-)>

Guest guest
Woo-hoo! He worked you hard. Only one time did I have a client who said she was too sore, and ask to not go quite as intense. Oops. She was handling it fine at the time, I thought she was doing great  She felt it too much with DOMS the next day though. My new client wants to be pushed and pushed, and pushed some more! :)Darcy I am so sore - last night could barely pull the seatbelt down and into the clicker and lifting coffee to my lips hurts, I've been using my left hand for a lot of things because it's not as sore as my right side. Oops. that would be me! LOL i was going to comment to laura that i would run away from NOEL screaming, hoping that he would never catch me. toooo much pain! from a trainer's viewpoint, is it really necessary to cause so much muscle soreness in order to give your client an effective workout? seems extreme to me, :*carolyn. Guest guest
LOL, absolutely not. I usually always ask about how my client felt after their last session. It's usually. " I was sore, but not too bad " . That's what I like to aim for. Of course you can't really " aim " for that. But that, to me, is the best answer  Not to where they are crippled, but not where they didn't feel anything. BUT, as we all know. DOMS is not a good measuring tool of how effective workouts are. Darcy  is it really necessary to cause so much muscle soreness in order to give your client an effective workout? seems extreme to me, :*carolyn. Guest guest
I am certainly not an expert on this - but to paraphrase a very knowledgeable person from FitFirmies - any trainer can make you sore - but not necessarily be effective. As Darcy mentioned DOMS is not necessarily a good indicator of your workout. Donna's two cents...> Only one time did I have a client who> said she was too sore, and ask to not go quite as intense. Guest guest
I don't think it has to hurt so much. It's just that he worked her so hard, it DOES hurt. I doubt his goal was to make her have massive DOMS, or so I'm assuming anyway.Darcy On Thu, Jun 18, 2009 at 10:16 PM, Festival City Concrete Ltd / & Carolyn Visser <cvisser@...> wrote: Donna M-P wrote: >any trainer can make you sore - > but not necessarily be effective. Guest guest
, try your " Take No Prisoners " trainer. The thing is while you're doing it it all moves so fast you don't have time to think about the pain you'll be in later and you get it DONE. I am a bit of a masochist and do believe in " no pain, no gain " . Pain is the muscles repairing themselves and getting bigger. We'll see what happens. Let us know if you try out your personal torturer and how it goes!

Guest guest
If I work up the courage to do it, I will DEFINITELY let you know how it goes:-) He also has a boot camp going. You have to pass a fitness test and it lasts two weeks. They only do 12 people at a time. It sounds fun? and challenging! Download the AOL Classifieds Toolbar for local deals at your fingertips. Guest guest
Ya gotta be really careful with that "no pain, no gain" saying around some people (and I don't mean the masochists). Newbies to fitness are really afraid of that and/or believe it. When I talk with WW members about soreness I use that specific term... "soreness" and differentiate it from "pain." I associate "pain" with injury and "muscle soreness" with progress and try to pair it that way so people will know real pain isn't real good. (You're on your own with the DOMS though, I like a good amount of soreness after tough workouts but I do value being able to move my limbs for daily tasks without screaming.) :-) Re: / second session with the personal torturer , try your "Take No Prisoners" trainer. Guest guest
i hear you there, nancy!! soreness is much different than pain. i would rather have the kind of doms that makes it hard to sit down than the pain when my knee is " acting up. " i guess it is the difference between the soreness discomfort that goes away after a day (or two) and a true painful injury. i guess that is why it is better to ease into exercise for a beginner (or anyone who may be starting over or trying something new). stacey

Guest guest
For sure - I don't have injurious pain, just major DOMS. I was able to fit in my jeans again today! Yay! It's a snug fit mind you, but at least I can wear them.. laura > > i hear you there, nancy!! soreness is much different than pain. i would rather have the kind of doms that makes it hard to sit down than the pain when my knee is " acting up.
