Our daughter, Brooklyn, is almost 5. She started having fevers at

around 6 months. We were continuously told they were viral and to

let it run it's course. Other times they treated it with antibiotics

which, of course, did nothing. We dealt with these ineffective

treatments until April of 2007 when my husband researched periodic

fevers on the web and found that matched most of Brooklyn's

symptoms. We talked to our doctor who referred us to an infectious

disease specialist.

They drew her blood during an episode and her white blood cell

count was higher than normal(17,000). They prescribed us prednisone

and said to give it to her at onset of fever. It worked but we were

told prednisone was more of an " emergency " medication. So she went

on Cimetidine. Three weeks later she got another fever and she

continues to get them. Also when taking prednisone, her fevers often

come more frequently.

Now we are trying to decide our best option. Tonselectomy??? See

if she out grows it??? When Brooklyn gets these fevers she shuts

down. It is very hard to get her to take medication. She doesn't

eat. She becomes lethargic and starts to slur her words. We feel

like everytime she gets a fever it sets her back. Also, her fevers

come anywhere from one week apart to a few months apart. Is this

normal?

I am excited to be a part of this group! To talk to others who are

having some of these same experiences. It doesn't seem well known,

even among doctors. I am looking forward to any feedback. Thank you!
