Dear All,

Pardon my delay in keeping up with the list. I just read yesterday's

digest and am so very grateful for all your wonderful imput about my husband

and how to get him to seek help. Dana, you're suggestions should almost as

if you know him (especially the part about getting the audio tape for him).

, you DO know him - he may respond to your suggestions b/c they come

from a " real: person. Kathy and Kathy - thanks for the imput. The CHADD

chapter here in New Orleans is heavily weighted on children's issues so they

are not my best resource. However, I do plan to work on finding the " right "

dr. through my kids' pdoc as well as my professional sources.

Once again, you all are phenomenal! Thank you!

Hi. I am a subscriber to a tourettes and autism/tourettes email group. It

was posted on there. The side effects weren't listed. It was only one

clinical study. I am sure it will be looked into further. I found it to be

interesting, too. You can buy the nicotine patches over the counter. I

would imagine the side effects would be the same as those for people who

smoke, decreased appetite, jitters, etc. But, I did not read that. I am

just guessing. Someone emailed me saying Rimland's newsletter had reported

a while back. I don't remember reading it.

Just my opinion but as a former smoker, (who keeps going back) I would be

hesitant to give a kid, especially one with autism too, a drug as adicitve as

nicotine. I can not even imagine having to deal with my son, who has

tourettes and autism, going through withdrawal!! Some reports say it is more

adictive than herione which given my experience doesn't surprise me.

On the other hand I have to say that my husband who has had problems with

mild/moderate depression, chronic irritability, and mood swings started

smoking again about a year ago. He was doing it on the sly so I didn't know

it for about 3 months but I had noticed that he wasn't depressed anymore and

no more mood swings. It was about 3 months after I discovered he was smoking

that I put 2 and 2 together. He hasn't had a depressive episode and is rarely

irritable since he has been smoking (about 5 cigerettes a day). I told him he

couldn't quit until he saw a doctor and got on some kind of medication!

And the articlke about nicotine was in Rimlands newsletter about a year ago

maybe a little longer. I can't remember the other problems it mentioned that

were helped by nicotine.

My apologies, I see the last two have been duplicated. Strange when

my mailer send that they hadn't been sent. Also strange that I not

receiving some of the posts or they are taking a lot longer to get

here.

I do my best not to muck things up, but sometimes the software just

does give you a second chance.

My apologies to one and all once again.

Dear Steve

Thanks for all the info - it is so wonderful to have a great guy like you around

- you provide us with some much info that it saves me having to spend hours to

find relevant info on the net.

A friend of mine also struggling with ME or Cron. Fatigue etc just told me that

she has been going for Ultraviolet Blood Iradiation treatment and that she is

feeling much better.

Does anyone know of this treatment and what side effects there could be at a

later stage?

would love to know more.

Best wishes to all

Sorry poor excuse but I am quite tired at the moment so I 'll just

give these addresses:

http://www.ephca.com/uvbi.htm

http://www.caringmedical.com/photo.html

http://www.thorne.com/townsend/oct/ultraviolet.html

http://www.mamma.com/

http://members.aol.com/liptc/alt.htm

from here:

Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (oxidative-phototherapy)

Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI) was first introduced in the

1930s to combat the polio virus, and was ignored in later decades

of medical use. With today's virus resistance to antibiotics UBI

has again emerged.

UBI is intravenously applied by irradiating blood with a

controlled amount of ultraviolet energy in the accepted

therapeutic UV band. This produces a rapid detoxifying effect with

subsidence of toxic symptoms. No harmful effects have been

observed in UBI therapy in thousands of cases of viral infections,

hepatitis, bacterial infections, and many other illnesses.

not sure whether this is directly related:

I haven't read through them to know how relevent they are to your

question, so I hope they are of some help.

Welcome "

I thing you'll get a great deal of information by Participating, In

addition, yo will have the best support group abatable. We try to share

as much information as possible, as well ass a place to get whatever

suggestions you may come across.

The members may be ahead of where you are, but, some, like yourself

will will be ahead or beyond you in their therapy. But the most

important aspect will be to gain knowledge, have people who " been here

and done that " , to help in any way they can. We are like a family so we

can focus, or direct you to the correct answers you may have now and in

the future.

I think you'll find everyone on the list are here for each other.

While you go through the routine stuff it's nice to know that you have

FRIENDS to ask questions, review current studies, and, in essence

participate in you care.

The facts are that this is a " support " group, to listen, help,

direct, and make sure you are getting best care you can. At the moment,

there are only 2 providers on the list, and that may be beneficial if

you need us. No one is expert, but, by participating, you get a better

knowledge of what the disease is, what should be done, and what others

have experienced.

While many have succeed, others are in an experimental regime.

So, don't be shy, read whatever you can, and never hesitate to ask

any questions. That is why this list serve has done so well. It is the

sharing of information and being able to commiserate with people who may

be able to offer some guidance, and what to expect.

Again welcome, and remember that we want you become part of the

" extended " family. THere is no such thing as a " stupid " question,

especially since the odds are that someone else experienced the same

problems. Marty

As I understand what I've been reading, it's not congress but

medicare that is putting these cuts into effect on Jan. 1st, 2002...

Congress is asking for an extension while they look into the effects

this will have on the expense of medical care for ICD/Pacemaker

patients as well as chemo patients that now get treated as

outpatients. I would suggest writing to your congressmen... you can

usually do so via the internet... let them know how you feel about

these cutbacks... check out www.congress.org ... you can also read

reports on this matter by doing a search for Medicare cutbacks.

JES :) in NJ...

But how much you enjoy what you have :)

Dear Darryl,

I totally know what you mean about being way too young to have these

problems. I'm seveteen, and I was diagnosed with Achalasia last December. I

had the dilations, too, but they didn't offer swallowing relief for more than

a month. Yes, I did have big problems with heartburn. It's because the valve

that is stretched in the dilation to allow food down also allows more food

and acid up, regardless of what you eat. The thing that worked for me was the

myotomy surgery with a fundilplication. Basically, they cut all the muscles

in the esophogus to make a food shoot where food could freely go up nd down

(myotomy) and added a fundilplication or partial wrap to keep food down and

avoid heartburn. It worked out really well. Plus, the surgery is no biggy,

especially since you're young and have no real health problems. I was walking

around the wardthe day after the surgery and was only in the hospital for

five days. After about a month I was running and everything - back to new.

well im glad things are good for you. I met w/another gi specialist on tues who said that they are extreemlely frustrated w/my type of illness and so im a bunch of medicine and hoping i dont get worse. I had blood tests today on my throid and like a 1000 other things so I just hope that something turns up thats causing it. My case may be different than yours in that the doc didnt say i have achalasia, he said im having spasms all over my esophagus thats causing me pain etc. You said they cut all ur mucles, but im wondering if u meant they cut the lower sphincter. My problem affects me many times b4 i even eat anything. To be honest w/everyone my life sucks right now, not feeling sorry just being honest, and since ive just got worse and worse ill probably die of this, which would be good right now. If i didnt havent a family or God I would do it myself. But hey its good that you feel good and maybe some day i will but im not counting on it.

Subject: New report on California farm worker health status

Hi Everyone - Several people have contacted me regarding how to obtain

copies of the new report on the California Agricultural Worker Health

Survey. The first run of print copies has been depleted and a new print

run is now planned. In the meantime, I decided to post the Word 2000

text

file and the Excel 2000 graphics file with this message as the simplest

and

least time-consuming way to make the report available. The two files

are

not large (~250k in total) so folks should not be burdened by long

downloads. They can be easily deleted if you don't want them.

The attached files were used to prepare the print edition. The report

was

initially presented as an invited paper at the U.S. Mexico Symposium on

Migration and Health, October 19, 2001, sponsored by the California

Policy

Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley, as a part of

their California Program on Access to Care (CPAC).

Warm regards,

Don Villarejo

Hi Evan. I see that Alobar answered your question, but I have one for you.

What does the palm oil taste like, and how do you use it?

Thanks.
