Guest guest
>> WOW Irma. I'd like to hear more about this program. Do you remember what channel it was on? Or if we could get a copy of the script? > Donna > Donna , No luck , it was provided by our local Broadcasting Network klrn. Alot of the information provided is what we've shared and what Joan has in the files . I'll write the highlights & Resources mentioned . Autism Out of the Darkness: Other Avenues , is a documentary produced for those parents, grandparents, care-givers, teachers, educators and other professionals who are looking for options . The program does not advocate one therapy or intervention over another but merely provides alternatives and creates choices . When a parent first receives the diagnosis from the medical community often times they are given very little information as to what their next step should be . Many parents will delve into the subject and learn all that they possible can be researching on the internet, attending conference and seminars and grasping for all the information available . While other families due to financial burden or child care responsibilties are not able to attend workshops therefore are not always as informed. This documentary is offered to anyone who owns a television . The program was produced by a mother who has an 8 yr.old son with autism . She knows first hand the challenges, stress, frustrations and joys that come with having an autistic child . I'll be leaving out some addresses and authors names as its alot . " Autism a medical disorder and not a rare one . Autism affects over 1/2 million individuals is more common than C F , Downs Syndrome , MS , 4 x common in boys than in girls . Incidents of Autism has exploded over the decade . National crisis affecting over 400,000 families " . A Parents Perspective said, " One difficult task face our children into the community is uninformed judgement of others. Because our children look and appear normal when they act bizarrely . The general public can be quick to judge the child and our parental skills . I'm here to tell you , where doing the best we can , like everyone we have good days and bad days . Try not to judge too quickly . I say this not to seek pity , just to bring awareness of what might really be taking place " .
