Guest guest
This funniest thing happened this morning. My 7 yr old son wakes me up and asked for the “game”. I don’t know what he means. But, he goes in the closet and get the board game “LIFE”. I probably bought the thing on sale a million years ago. Never bothered to take it out. But, is asking for it. I’m guessing that he has played the game at school. They use board games to help him interact with typical kids. The school also has an after school program twice a week where they play games. Not sure exactly what goes on- but I know games are involved. Anyway, it takes me like 20 minutes to put the board together. Memories are flooding back to me. I remember as a child LIFE was my favorite game. I just loved getting married and having children, zooming around in the little car, going up mountains, etc... So, my son becomes a police officer. I get married. He gets married. Every step I’m thinking “god I wish this was true”. I hope that on Saturday, May 19th this will not be the only day I ever see him get married. I have twins- of course I pick girls- because the rate of autism is lower. We go through the game- kind of skipping most of the squares- but knows that each payday he is supposed to get paid. The whole concept of insurance is alittle much- so we skip that part too. thinks because I got to the end first I’m the winner. But, I explain it’s about the money. My kid is also saying words like 5,000 & 20,000. I never even heard him count that high before. Cool. So, he finishes and we count our money. Guess who wins? (for real) ! He was so excited. I can’t believe my eyes. Even though we played a modified version- we got thru the whole game. My son took turns. He understood paydays. And he enjoyed himself. The LIFE board is alittle different than when I was a kid. They have one square that says “build a website pay $10,000”. I’m thinking they might want to have a square that says “vaccinate your child at birth”. Then down the line it says “take your child to the doctor, skip a turn”. Then, “your child has autism pay $100,000,000”. “Visit a DAN pay $10,000” Oh the choices are endless. (could you imagine if we made up an “autism life” board?) Anyway, thanks for letting me share my experience- you guys are the only ones who understand this stuff
