Guest guest
What we have done is go to (or call) the college and ask for dept. of SW, nursing, OT, PT, early childhood (education). We ask for someone in that department to recommend students. We ask the students whose names we get to agree to child abuse clearances from the state department of child welfare. We also ask for references from the school and from their faith organization. Or where they volunteer as part of their curriculum. We check all references. Then we ask them to come for supervised by us get acquainted visits of an hour or so for 3 consecutive times because it takes time for our child to adjust to new people. Then if that goes well, we draw up a contract in writing of what is expected of them and when and what they will reeive in return. We spell out terms of work, use of telephone. washing machine, guests, food (if not eating with family. We have done this 3 times and each time was better than the previous as we learned how to be employers and what we needed to do to get better results. We have also attempted this through Senior centers because our child has no grandparents. But so far, no success.
