Guest guest
a, is it you that knows about Dr. Jim? Can you post some info about him and his method? I was asking Seth's teacher about it and she never heard of it. I will just print off what you write and send it to her if that's okay? Guest guest
Just tell me at 50 how do I get on the floor and who will get me up??? I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for 12 years and my husband puts me in and out the tub...last week I got some of those nice bath salts and incense and told him to shut the bathroom door and just let me relax...the only problem is he forgot to come back and get me out...30 min. later he opened the door to a bathroom full of smoke and me fuming...I told him I think turning your wife into a prune could be grounds for divorce:-) Judy
Guest guest
yaa, its me, i wouldnt knwo where to start, um you should set aside times just for floor play, and i know wiht nathan to get him going i will copy him, this is very effective with his echolalia--and then we may chat about the string, NO quesntions, simple pharases, keep it going back and forth long as possible eg, i may say neat string, nathan may go " ya " , then i may say i like red or what ever color it is, nathan may say ofcoarse or red string etc there are also some games like with a sock or a balloon, where you say a sound or a word before throw or hit it, with the sock we did noise making like sneezing or someithing to make the sock fall off, there are other things too, like pictures, instead of reading books talk simple about pictures in books REMEMBER NO QUESTIONS THATS ONE OF THE BIGGIES. He can explain it way better, and his methods have helped tremendously with nathan, he still not a talker much but he will communicate his needs and sometimes get silly in on the conversation. you can check it out at communicating or at www.jamesdmacdonald.com or even email him personally at macdonald.3@... he inputws and helps out on his communicating groups frequently. He most likely can email you files of info on floor time. shawna. >From: smilinggail@... >Reply- > >Subject: Dr. Jim????? >Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 21:22:37 EST > >a, is it you that knows about Dr. Jim? Guest guest
I was just kidding ..but the table sounds better, I'm trying to get Sara at 14 to sit in chairs and not always on the floor with her legs folded up. It drives the bus drivers crazy and the teachers who want " feet on the floor " , I don't care but try and teach her to be age appropriate. My Sara is legally blind with vision of 20/800 so we can't do much visual stuff ... thats why I thought her isolating behavior and disinterest was due to the blindness but the blind school says no...I still think it must play some part, we live is a very visual world and to have that part missing must effect you somehow. We live not far from US Berkeley and they have the school of optometry there, I have always had they kids eyes tested locally until I heard how they have special ways of testing children who are non-verbal. We were quite surprised to find out two of our 5 kids with ds were legally blind and how off all of them were in their glasses prescription. If you live in CA I highly recommend them, no cost for most insurance's, the appt. takes about 2-3 hrs. Other Universities may have this but I don't know which ones. judy Judy
Guest guest
well it doesnt have to be at the floor, many use the floor because its where our kids like to play, but one may probably try it at a table, we do often with board or card games with the boys, it gets nathan going some, i know he gets excited, but you could look at pictures and talk about them and copy him/her from your table or couch, im thinking the child would then come over to you to listen to you mimicking them abut im not the professional on the subject as dr jim is, shawna. >From: Judithrehling@... >Reply- > >Subject: Re: Dr. Jim????? >Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 22:02:57 EST > >Just tell me at 50 how do I get on the floor and who will get me up??? > >I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for 12 years and my husband puts me in and >out the tub...last week I got some of those nice bath salts and incense and >told him to shut the bathroom door and just let me relax...the only problem >is he forgot to come back and get me out...30 min. later he opened the door >to a bathroom full of smoke and me fuming...I told him I think turning your >wife into a prune could be grounds for divorce:-) >Judy > > >
