Guest guest
Hello to you all, I am new to this group and wanted to see where you all began with the testing of your children. I have identical twin boys, of which one is having the recurring fevers. He has run fevers of 103 for generally 3 days at a time then I stop taking them as he resumes his normal activity. He started this process in Dec. at 8 mos. of age and today he is 18 mos. I have only noticed a sore in his mouth this last time. After many pedi visits we were referred to an infectious disease doc last month. Non eventful appt. This month we went for a follow up and many blood tests were ordered as well as a chest xray as he hasn't had a clear chest xray yet. This was unknown to me. The blood tests were: CBC with man. diff, ESR, IgG, IgA, IgM, IgE and IgD, hepatic panel, complement CH50, and an HIV test. I don't have all the results back but do know he is HIV negative, does not have hepatitis, had a negative TB test as well and his IgG is normal as well. His sed rate is high but he said it " fits the picture " of what he has been dealing with. Sorry to make this so long of an intro, just wanted to know if there were other tests that your children endured to come up with their diagnosis. We are in the very early stages of testing so he has not been diagnosed with . I wish you all well, thanks in advance. Guest guest
Naomi, The docs are doing the correct tests! My son's ped immunologist began with the same tests! After ALL these results come in... they MAY want to do a Bone Marrow? Not always but our doc did want to confirm to cancer (leukemia etc) The last part if all are normal except the elevated sed rate during episodes and possibly elevated WBC's... would be the DNA studies to make sure there is no genetic link for disorders such as FMF, TRAPs etc.... Guest guest
Thank you for your response Fran! I am glad to know my doc is on the same page with the others. HE has not called me with the final results yet but I signed a release in the lab to have the results send directly to me We are still awaiting the IgD results and I haven't heard the chest xray results. I am in the medical field as is my husband and it is killing me to wait until Nov. 17th (our next appt.) to find out what the next step is. Noah is getting over a cold and is virtually fever free at the moment but he isn't due until early Nov. for another fever span...knock on wood that he avoids it this time. I appreciate your input and thanks again for responding. I worry about a bone marrow test as I am hoping to stay less invasive during the testing as possible. Thanks again, Naomi Montrose Re: Beginning testing Naomi, The docs are doing the correct tests! My son's ped immunologist began with the same tests!
